View Full Version : Did u know - another Sheffield radio station
E-Man Groovin 29-06-2003, 16:37 ... that Sheffield is going to have another radio station on FM during July?
The wonderful community radio station Sheffield Live (which normally broadcasts on the 'net) will be broadcasting 7 days a week on 106.6 FM. It will feature fantastic and interesting music and chat, the likes of which you don't hear on Bland FM, and Radio Bland.
Many of the presenters are local club/bar DJs, and that includes yours truly! I play big, beautiful, blissed out chiilout music (and a smattering of Brazillian grooves) that you can kick your feet up and lounge to.
Hope to receive some requests from some of you SheffForumers!

Have a listen Foxx (with two Xs) after the 3rd (especially to MY show) and let us know what you think.

I dunno RPG, I'm just a DJ. The powers that be at the station would be able to tell us that. I do know that the station's goal is to get a permanent licence. I guess it's a matter of watching this space
DaBouncer 30-06-2003, 09:38 Hey E-Man,
The It's OK vote was mine! Not that I know what the show is going to be like. More that I realised there had been no votes at the time and thought (in my on small minded way) that it'd be funny to make the vote poll look like someone giving the finger.
Oh well, small things please small minds!:P
Looking forward to the show though! Got 106.6FM stored on my phone now ready to listen during July!
The lottery numbers for next week will be...
... I can't tell you that, otherwise I wudn't win it to myself now would I?
back2basics 30-06-2003, 11:00 A freind of mine just got a weekly slot on Sheffield live. Look like they are doing all the right things.
waxy chuff 30-06-2003, 12:08 E-man, you guys still looking for some speech-based programming? Was meant to come speak to Nils last week but completely forgot!
I'm from the Northern Media School across the road - we did your news output during the last RSL.

Waxy - dunno... am not doing the scheduling... am just a humble DJ :? Suggest you speak to Nils or the lovely Monia.
Nutronic 02-07-2003, 01:46 Its the only one worth listening to Z-Man but I would say that, my shows are there

E-Man Groovin 03-07-2003, 12:23 Sheffield Live is on the air now. Set your dial to 106.6FM and be impressed....
or go to http://www.sheffieldlive.org
I'll have a listen later... although, please tell me it's not yet more "funky house", or any other abysmal, loathsome sub-genre of house "music"?
E-Man Groovin 04-07-2003, 00:14 Are you Forumers enjoying it? I personally think it's smashing. It gets even better between 2pm & 4pm today because that's when I'm on the air playing beautiful, blissed-out chillout.
Feel free to PM me with shout-outs & requests.
E-Man
I couldn't actually tune in. I'll try again later.
What's "blissed-out chillout", by the way? Synonymous for "funky house", or something?
E-Man Groovin 04-07-2003, 10:38 Erm, no.
Surely you've come across the chillout genre? It's downtempo music ranging from trip-hoppy (e.g. Moby/Portishead/Royksopp), thru classical-type stuff (William Orbit), through laid back Brazillian numbers (e.g. "A transa" from the City Of God soundtrack), through downtempo Jazz, through dubby tracks. Even the odd folky (Aimee Mann), and lazy rock/hip-hop (e.g. N.E.R.D's "Provider") tracks get in.
Blissed-out simply means that it's generally soaring soulful stuff that will give you a bit of a dreamy lift.
And if there were any "funky house" tracks that were slow and mellow and beautiful - I'd play them!
Don't get too hung up on labels. I think it was Louis Armstrong who said "there are two types of music, good and bad". Just open your mind & listen.
waxy chuff 04-07-2003, 10:39 Black Gold of the Sun, by Masters at Work. Play that for me...
I'll be over to see Nils in a bit. Is he about?
DaBouncer 04-07-2003, 11:08 I can't seem to tune in either E-Man.
Thanks for the additional info E-Man. I have heard those styles you expanded on - and indeed listen to most of them - I've just never heard the collective term "Blissed-out chillout". I guess It's just one of those trendy, fad terms, which I rarely take any notice of.
Believe me when I say that my mind is very open to music - I'm just not a fan of the house genre.
Cheers.

Very nice choice :)
Also i think as it's a Sheffield radio station, some Nightmares on Wax is in order.
waxy chuff 04-07-2003, 14:54 Still Smoking' 2 is a choice piece of music
I am guessing that it won't be possible to pick SheffieldLive up in some parts of Sheffield. 106.6FM is the frequency of SAGA - East Midlands based radio station.
Who listens to radio these days to be honest last time i heard radio was when Tommy Vance did the rock show on radio 1..i think its an out dated format :?

That explains it then. I never listen to the radio anywhere else but in the car these days.
