What do you do when you want to spice up your life but don't want to pay to join "spice" or other expensive ways of meeting people? Are there any like minded similarly bored people of a certain age (or younger) who might want to join me and start discovering life beyond the clubs and pubs? Singles clubs and speed dating doesn't do it for me, it would be great to think that there may be some married/single/seperated/bored people who just want to find mates to have nights out with, and extend their social circle?(and want to perhaps find more to do than the local pub quiz!) Ideas and invitations please!

why don't you actually read the forum and find a meet you fancy attending?

(not aimed at you Mel ;) )

seems you are an expert on the subject! like to impart a little more of your wisdom this way, am not inclined to spend hours searching for something that I havent even got a title for, the last posts on the subject of singledom were in april 2005, any clues you want to give me concerning bored people meeting up?

We have an entire section just for 'going out' if you bother to read the home page.

The 1,300 threads may take you a little time to wade through, but as most of them will be for past events, you shouldn't struggle too much

I love lazy people

There won't be a new group if you're starting it, but you refuse to read the forum rules ;)

joie - get used to strix - that is one seriously patronising lady.

if she were any smugger she would explode in a self righteous ball of smugness!

Actually, Spice isn't really that expensive ! lol...

Anyway, join in any local groups that catches your interest. Walking, reading, writing. Salsaing. I've joined a salsa group in Sheffield. It is pretty fun. It's finding the time to keep up with the salsa sessions.

Once you know a few people that you can see as mates, then you can do other social activities. Dinner parties. Movies. Jamming sessions ? Whatever you're into.

thanks for the support Pasty!
I have a problem, I have tried Salsa and found the forum great fun, done loads of other stuff, but my real interests are theatre/ books/ cultural /arty things that require some form of discussion, so am really looking to make contact with a group who enjoy similar stuff and like to go visit then (like the French) gather round a few drinks and discuss! shouldnt be hard except this is england, and its not the done thing!

Sounds good to me JDV! :)

I'm sure you'll find groups on the forum that enjoy doing these sorts of activities. Stick around for a while and you'll slowly build up a bigger picture.

Welcome by the way :)

I have to chip in here for Strix, we've had our little spats on here in the past certainly, but IMO, she's usually just trying to be helpful, but sometimes it doesn't come over quite how it's meant.

Back on topic, I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting things to do for fun.

I'd suggest posting a meet notice for something you'd like to do, on the going out thread jdv, and see what responses you get.

*welcome* to SF, you'll be as bad as the rest of us pretty soon, we can never leave :D

Thanks RD, am a bit shy! would prefer to chat to people then invite them out, meeting strangers isnt really my thing!

Actually, I personally would love to do the French thing as well. You sit and dicuss all sorts, but it means you must be a really well read person. There are only a handful of night cafes in Sheffield. There's one in the West 1 complex. Can't remember the name now. There used to be some kind of activity, wine tasting or coffee tasting or something similar in FOB.

For reading groups and discussions of thm over a coffee or two, well, you need to check out the Telegraph and see if there are groups out there which do this. I'm sure I've seen a few ads before.

Anyway, what do you mean you don't like meeting strangers? We hardly know you, and we're all talking to you now ! See, not as hard as it looks. :P

Take any pick of any thread on the SF. Different topics in the written form. I suppose it is a different interaction style, without the body language and tone of voice, but none the less, it's still a social interaction, of sorts !

I ahve just spent some time looking at different threads, some interesting conversations going on, people expressing their views, but a little mind boggling the choice there is! Fascinating to view differnt peoples threads. but am getting square eyes now, enough!

You'll be as addicted as the next person soon joi ;)

(search 'addicted' and see how many people have posted the same despairing topic :hihi: )

I'm sorry to have misunderstood your first post. It looked like you were trying to start a 'going out' group, but your need for a bit more depth is fantastic

Have you joined the writing group btw?

Would you be up for organising a theatre meet? It's ages since we had one of those :) Shsheff did us a group booking to see the dress rehersal of 'much ado about nothing'

Would we have to read the book before hand, and would we have a before and after the show meet to discuss the plot?

Please speak of yourself, and i hope me and pippo don't come into this discription. We are nice placid people, and you shock me saying things things like that about fellow forumers. :hihi: It is so degrading.

If anyone hears of reading groups, wine tasting, singing, etc I'd be interested to find out more. If anyone knows any nice restaurants in Sheffield like Milano's and BoHo that would be great too :-)
