View Full Version : What has happened to Dormer Tools (Worksop) Albert T Smith 04-11-2006, 21:40 Anyone conversant with the Dormer Tools (Worksop) CHAIRBOY 04-11-2006, 22:53 http://www.worksoptoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=741&ArticleID=1844973 deelightful3 05-11-2006, 08:20 I know 3 people who work there, and have been there for many years, not spoken to any of them so not sure what their feelings are on it,but i would assume they are gutted. Hal9001 05-11-2006, 10:17 The wording is slightly wrong, althought this is of no comfort for the people affected. The manufacturing site at Worksop has been a Sandvik Tooling Supply factory for quite some time now. It is the manufacturing plant that is closing. Dormer will be getting it's tools from US, South America and Europe etc. The problem is that Sandvik has too many plants producing the cheaper type of drills (High Speed Steel). Various factors are involved in the decision to close the plant. Most involve things beyond the control of the people at the Worksop plant. I beleive it is partially this governments fault, it is easier to divest of people in the UK than elsewhere. The UK doesn't impose the import restrictions that some other countries do. The people at the Worksop plant have worked hard and achieved so much over the last few years. The manufacturing site is/was doing well, and is a testament to the professionalism of all who work there. It just shows that doing well does not mean you are safe. It should be noted that the DORMER brand continues, and this includes things like Sales, Product Management and Design/Developement. It is the company's intention to keep these in the Sheffield area. I have worked at Dormer for 28 years and I will be losing a lot of good friends. I wish them all good look for the future, and I am confident that they will all have the future and jobs they deserve. MissGobby 06-11-2006, 09:47 my dad used to work there and my grandad did too. quite a few of my dads friends work/have worked there. Hal my dad probably knows you!
