When I was 16 in 1955..I was a member of the "National Trades Technical Society" or N.T.T.S. for short...It was great fun we used to go out on a regular basis usually in the evenings after work and visit interesting companies in and around Sheffield...We used to go visiting via a private bus..We were taken on a guided tour by a company rep and shown the manufacturing proccess and usually ended up in the works canteen for a bit of a party ..Some times we got free samples to take home as we did when we visited "Stones Brewery" and "Gunstones Bakery" other workplaces I remember were, Samuel Fox Staybright works, Moore and Wright, and The C.I.D. Police Museum at Castle Green (opposite the Black Swan)...Members always wore a small N.T.T.S. lapel badge.
Does this Society still exsist? and was anyone else on the Forum a member?.
