View Full Version : Meadowhall. Why aren't the doors automatic?

In such a multi-modern shopping complex like Meadowhall, why are the doors of the 'manual opening' species? I watched a woman struggling to get herself and her pram in at the Argos end entrance.

I was going to assist her but decided to observe her efforts fully from a distance instead in order to attain the full picture so I could 'tell it as it was' to fellow forum members.

The frustrated lady managed to enter Meadowhall eventually after a 4.3 second struggle with the antiquated doorage system.

Mr Meadowhall: hire a skip, get rid of those diabolical doors and get some automatics.

You know it makes sense.

if you can't get out, you might spend more money

I went on Saturday for the first time in about four years and forgot how heavy those things were!

I used to live in a city where the shopping centre had some automatic doors which opened outwards whenever the sensor detected movement. I wonder how many people were injured over the years when they approached the doors too quickly and were hit by them as they opened for them. If such doors were installed at Meadowhall I would imagine the casualties would soon add up, as would the cost of defending legal cases brought by people claiming to be injured by "dangerous doors".

No, come on! What about walking into some foliage and poking your eye out or banging your noggin on the steelmen. If they wanted to cover their bottoms completely (thought I'd better say that as 'arses' sounds crude) they'd get rid of the doors, the roof the floor and the walls - oh and the shops.

I suppose that would be a real improvement.

Doors don't have to open outwards, they could slide open á-la Star Trek.

As far as I know, they all have an automatic door, I know the one by Argos does (not all the doors are, but there is always one at least for the disabled) I know the sliding doors for the exit to the car park never seem to open fully, if you anticipate them opening fully, you soon find they they seem to stop sliding about half way.
