View Full Version : The Village
Went to see The Village tonite and was pleasantly surprised - was much better than the trailer lead me to believe it would be
Anyone else seen it ?
Gonna see Dodgeball tomorrow :P
LoopyLou 22-08-2004, 10:27 I was expecting a full blown horror film, but was also pleasently suprised.
The story is good, builds very slowly ( a bit too slowly in places) but with a good twist at the end. I think most people guess the twist, but even so it is still good to watch.
Not as good as sixth sense, but not bad.
mr craig 22-08-2004, 21:37 My sis went to see it the other night. She said it was ok but the ending was a bit weird. I might go and see it.
tracyedge 23-08-2004, 16:06 we were gonna go saturday but a frient said it was **** so we didnt bother might go this weekend now tho
I went to see it last weekend and I though it was real good, I should say I wasnt expecting much as I had heard some bad stuff about it, but I was fairly impressed!!! Well worth watching!!
Brilliant film though the ending left me feeling a little let down. Well written though, he's a smart lad M. Night Shyalaman! Just one question though, who was skinning the animals? Answers without giving too much away for those who haven't seen it yet! Oh yeah, who else saw the director in it and who else can tell me where he appeared in cameos in his other films? Just thought i'd test you all!
eviljock 26-08-2004, 08:19 Went to see this last night and it was crap. A prime example of hype and advertising overselling a piece of convoluted tripe. The ending was so unbelievable people in the audience started to laugh. I'd've laughed with them if I hadn't been so angry at being conned into spending money on this kakk.
top class film
shyamalan's a genious
Oh yeah, who else saw the director in it and who else can tell me where he appeared in cameos in his other films? Just thought i'd test you all!
.... he's the ranger's boss... but you only see his reflection, spotted it first time ;)
he's also the lad who traps the alien in his house then shoots off in a jeep in the signs.
not sure about the other two films though.
In the sixth sense he's the husband in the cuple looking for a ring in the jewellers shop when bruce willis smashes the window.
In unbreakable hes waiting for a ticket at the stadium where bruce willis works.
karandak 27-08-2004, 20:17 I thought in Sixth Sense he was the doctor when Cole had been locked in that cupboard!?!
He played Dr Hill in the 6th sense - see page below for full credits for the film :P

The ring buyers are listed as below :
Firdous Bamji .... Young Man Buying Ring
Samia Shoaib .... Young Woman Buying Ring
Saw the film last night... Great film... made me jump lol...
As someone had already metioned... the plot was easily read towards the end... Very strange ending... I was too left feeling a little.... hmmm is that it!
A good film in itself tho i have to say... worth going to see...
7/10
Speedy_Jim 04-09-2004, 08:20 I really didn't like it. I found it incredibly slow, dull, pretentious, clumsy, and un-engaging.
I'd made a point of not reading loads about it - read a couple of reviews that said it was dead good, but nowt else. So I guess I was expecting something a little more exciting. In essence, it's a love story with a twist at the end. Not really my kind of film.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that Shyalaman is a genius, he's a director that came up with a clever twist whilst writing "The Sixth Sense" and seems to have been struggling to keep to the same standards ever since.
Whenever you come to a new film the audience are always going to be waiting for the twist, and to be honest "The Village" was a little slow and never really delivered enough to make me turn around and say "Damn the twist, this is a decent film anyway!"
The actng was wooden and the dialogue was flat, and I'm willing to bet that like myself, most people figured out the ending abot a third of the way through the film. After that the only thing left was to spot Shyalaman's cameo.
In my opimion, this was a waste of the talents of Sigourney Weaver and Quaqheeem Phoenix, and it was a shame that Bryce Dallas Howard made her debut there and then (can anyone tell me how Rin Howard managed to produce a photogenic daughter?).
I've seen it and thought it was really good.
mimicraze 08-09-2004, 13:29 was really really looking forward to it, think i expected too much, and was very disappointed, wouldnt watch it again and wouldnt reccomend it to anyone. love his other films though, hes a fantastic director
Lucy_Green 08-09-2004, 22:39 I really enjoyed it. I loved the twist and thought the whole film to be very clever...as well as making me jump out of my skin on more than one occasion!!!
Mind you....you are talking to a person who didn't guess what was going on in Sixth Sense at all!!!!
kittykat 10-09-2004, 23:15 At least it was original.
Possibly the most uninteresting film of the year. Shame too, as it promised so much. Mr Shayamalan is slowly going downhill after some great movies.
Signs began the slow roll down and with The Village he's picking up pace.
I just want to know why - in The Village, even though they know she knows that the monster isn't real - why let her still go alone? what if she'd fallen into that trap and starved to death!!??
I just didn;t see the point of her going, those lazy buggers just wanted to get rid of her for a while!
