Does anyone have any info on the construction that us taking place next to the Riverside Exchange.

The building under construction is dwarfing the Riverside Exchange, are they going to be more luxury apartments or offices?

Blundells Centro office in West One should be able to help - they sold them.

A new riverside development of 100 plus Flats/Apartments is under construction behind Cornish Place on Neepsend Lane with a further phase just been approved on Green lane. All within the Kelham Island conservation area.

The new development next to the riverside exchange is by Wilson Bowden, they are also putting an extra 2 stories on the multistory car park next door to it.
I realy hope they've got a plan for where the residents are going to park there cars because it's already a nightmare round there and at over £1000 for a space in the multstory for a year a doubt they'll have many doing that!

So what exactly is the definition of this conservation area.

From what I gather the conservation area will be a further clean up of the river round kelham and a extension of the riverside walk up to neepsend, also they're doing something to help the wildlife round there too.

Does anyone have any links to a artist's impression of what the new Riverside flats currently under construction will look like when complete?

They look very impressive from a far already (they appear to dwarf the existing Riverside Exchange apartments!) and I can' t find any information about them anywhere on the net.

Blundells are definately dealing with this but good luck trying to get anywhere. I asked them to send me some information about 4 months ago and surprise, surprise it has never turned up.

Really don't know why any developer would choose to sell through Blundells - I've heard that they are dealing with the new Cala development so I take it I'll never receice any info about that either.

Excuse the rant !!

Blunderrs really are shockingly amateurish (their lettings department, at least). If anyone ends up renting one of these places, don't expect Blunderrs to help you any after you've handed over your cash. You know, things like giving you the full set of keys, giving you the correct set of keys, providing the correct tenancy agreements, liasing with the landlord, etc etc etc.

I bought one of them this time last year, due for completion May 2005 at the moment anyway. Probably be more like August...They sold about 80% of them in the first month.....They have their own parking, well I bought a parking space anyway...

The reason that you are not getting any info is simply because they are sold out, and were at the beginning of the year.

Trust me, with the massive over supply of 'city living' that is coming on stream, you will look back in 2 years and thank Blundells for being so inefficient.

They may have saved you a few thousand pounds............

If there is a massive over supply of city living why are the new builds selling up to 2 years before completion?
There are hundreds more apartments coming around west bar and even more to follow when the new inner relief road arrives. There is no doubt in my mind that these will all sell before completion.

Even with the housing market slowing down the central riverside has massive improvements on the way and these factors are making buying property there very attractive.

add to that the brand new solicitors UK head office opening up in sheffield down by riverside exchange, and the pedestrianisation from the station all the way into town. Where do you think all these solicitors are going to live!!

Check out the Accommodation Available string for our gem of a flat for sale at Cornish Place. Only down the road from the Riverside Exchange in the Kelham Island area and personally I think its a bit more special. Sheffield City Centre Living is going from strength to strength, but you have to be careful with your investment choice and not get carried away by excited developers talking up certain areas. You have to live there, not them.

Yes there are a few women/girls that regularly circulate in the area, sad fact of city life in an age where drugs are a major horror causing misery and ruining lives.

However they have never to my knowledge caused a public nuisance outside the development itself, usually they can be seen touting further up near the crossroads of the Kelham Island pub, and towards Shalesmoor.

Like all cities, just be a little bit streetwise and don't approach. Take sensible precautions if out alone - don't wave your mobile in the area or jangle your loose change in your pocket - this advice goes for anywhere in Sheffield. You are more likely to be robbed by the person you least expect, not the person you are keeping a close eye on.

Since I've lived here I've been happily walking into town for nights out and coming back at all hours without incident. I feel safer here than where I previously lived and that was supposed to be a nice area out at S25! (A very long story for another time) A male friend of mine who lives at Riverside Exchange regularly walks over to spend evenings at ours and has similarly had no problems coming or going.

The Police regularly patrol in the Kelham Island area which is great to see for all those who doubt their very existence. Also there is a Kelham Island action group which liaises with local police and council on wide ranging issues from planning law and environmental concerns right through to traffic and crime reduction.

All in all, I think Kelham Island is successfully regenerating and there are people addressing the problems that arise when turing an area around. The main problem I think the area has is the level/speed of traffic that builds up in the early morning as drivers take the short cut from the A61 to miss out West bar roundabout, there is an accident waiting to happen unless measures are taken.

You're right on all counts - sorry if I sounded a little disparaging before.

The Police are working quite hard on the prostitution problem as you say, and I know that there are various moves afoot now to move the last ones away from Upper Allen St where the problem has nearly gone. However, I'm struggling to see where they will go except around Cornish Place.

The Police have (quite rightly) a non-tolerance policy, but what areas do you think they will end up in - albeit hopefully in smaller numbers?

That's a difficult question.

I'm not an expert on ASBO's but I imagine that if women are prevented from working in the Kelham Island area of the city (and elsewhere like Trippet Lane where they also frequent) by having ASBO's enforced on them they will be forced to work elsewhere by their caring pimps? Those individuals won't want their assets locked up for up to 5 years where they can't earn. Whether they will be move elsewhere within Sheffield or further afield to Rotherham or even Leeds or Bradford I just don't know. I expect we'll have to wait and see as ASBO's take hold in the region.

There is a large piece of ground between the new Irwin Mitchell building due for completion in April and Riverside.
The Home Office were to build there but as far as I am aware due to residents of Riverside they complained that they did not want queues of Asylum Seekers waiting outside near to where they live so thats been refused.
That would be an great development area for new appartments.

Does anyone know how much it is for a years pass to the multistorey car park at riverside exchange?

The reason they are extending the NCP multistory is becuase of the IM building. The building they are moving from has an underground car park and therefore they need to assign spaces to their senior members of staff.
