Why do I lose radio reception whilst driving around the Crystal Peaks area? It happens every single time. Is it due to the overhead tram-wires or something?
I'd appreciate an explanation.
Thanks.
It's highly unlikely to be the overhead lines; if it's FM radio then it's probably because you've driven out of the area served by a transmitter on one frequency and in to the area served by another.
If you had accompanying areas served by transmitters on the same frqeuency you'd get problems in the 'overlap' areas served by two geographically different transmitters. The reasons are all rather geeky, I'm afraid...:)
So, what you do is have neighbouring areas served by transmitters on different frequencies. This means that as you move from one area to another you have to returne your radio but good quality reception is available on one or other of the frequencies in use across the whole 'border' area.
This is a common problem when you drive long distances, and this is why the FM stations like Radio 1,2,3 and 4 have a range of frequencies available to them.
