View Full Version : 18th Birthday Ideas?

It's my daughter's 18th in October and she'd like to celebrate it with her friends (approx 10). Understandably she doesn't want a family function but would love to arrange something a little different to celebrate the occasion. Her birthday falls on a Tuesday which is a shame as it restricts the time to the evening. Has anyone any ideas?? Would appreciate any suggestions put forward.

You could organise a theme party at a function room. Ask her friends what sort of theme to go with, ie: Grease, jungle, colour theme, etc etc etc.

Another idea that I like is:

Ask 18 women who are in her life her a letter offering their wisdom, reflections on their relationship with her etc. then parcel them up and give them to her. It is something she can keep forever.

Just a few ideas off the top of my head.

Bonny, thanks so much for the ideas. The last idea very original and I will certainly do it. For a laugh, I may also ask for words of wisdom from 6 of her closest mates who are male. I dread to think what they'll come up with as they're all practical jokers but that'll be part of the fun won't it?
Again, many thanks Bonny.

Yeah I like the male aspect of that.

You could ask them all to put an old key in the letter and say something like " As you now have a new key to the door I am returning the old one that you gave me when you told me how special I was to you"

I've seem that done at weddings and it went down a treat.

book her a surprise meal and have her friends come round to your house then have a surprise limo to take them off!

Can I suggest going around town, drinking approximately your body weight in larger with a pernod and black chaser with each pint. Getting to a club, spending two hours passed out in the cubicle surrounded by sick and broken glass while her mates are looking for her in the club. Then being dragged to a taxi to be told by various driver that they wont take anyone in that state. Eventually when you get one you have to have your head out of the window because you dont want to get any of the purple aniseed crap thats endlessly spewing out of your mouth and nose, in the taxi because it would cost you loads. Finally you wake 13 hours late feeling that your head has been run over by a combine harvester only to follow the words of a wise old sage who claims that the best cure for a hangover is drinking futher.

You don't have to do it in that order. Play around with it. Be creative. Kids love this type of activity. Anyway this is how I spent my 18th birthday and I wouldnt change a thing. Apart form the two hours I lost, the cuts, bruses and the drinking part.

I hope this has helped Swanny.

Mini,
Thanks for reminding me what it was like to be 18! God, I'm old now. Must be prepared and arrange for the sick bucket, first aid kit and lots of TLC for the following morning!!ps. Booked a minibus so I'll be the taxi service for the night!

Rach,
Yep, a hol a good idea or maybe a mini break. Unsure what club she'd like. Being a Tuesday night a bit of a problem. Trying to think of a lively restaurant with music. I've been given a few suggestions so will go and check them out. Of course that means me calling into these places and sampling what they have to offer. Arhh well, life can be so hard at times can't it??!!! Thanks Rach.
