There will be virtually nothing left to fish from the seas by the middle of the century if current trends continue, according to a major scientific study.....

I just saw this - scarey stuff.

I just hope that people start seeing that we can't just carry on screwing the planet over and expect to get away with it.

The idea of protected areas is interesting - I guess the issue now will be to get the politicians to play ball. The problem as I see it is that the continued fascination with economic growth is going to make this sort of long term planning nigh on impossible.

To paraphrase Neil Young's song 'After the Goldrush' - "we've got Mother Nature on the run in the 21st century". When is Mother Nature going to bite back?

If there won't be any more fish, maybe this traditional Scottish song will need to be amended......

Dance tae yer daddy,
Ma bonnie laddie,
Dance tae yer daddie, ma bonnie lamb!
An ye'll get a fishie
In a little dishie,
Ye'll get a fishie, whan the boat comes hame.

Don't worry, the market will ensure that the rich can continue to dine on fish indefinitely...

It's nothing to worry about (unless you're a fish), it's not like you need to eat them.

Hahaha, "wot will we eat next?" - not "oh no, we've knackered the eco-system beyond all repair and thus begins the downfall of man." Classic.
