Jannaths in town is my favourite... but it's only a takeaway or delivery service. Their mushroom vindaloos are really delicious. I normally get one on the way back from a night out.

I got salmonella poisoning from the Alameer a couple of years back. Favourite restaurant for me is the Bombay, just round the corner from the Frog and Parrot. Closed for a refurb at the moment though.

Hi,

I can give the thumbs up for the Mangla as well. Very good.

Also check out the 7Spices on Mayfair Court by Gibraltar Street. Best curries I have eaten in long while.

Just get a taxi there and a taxi back home, nothing to worry about then.
Also you might have wanted to try doing a search (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=486&perpage=15&highlight=curry&pagenumber=1).

I know Khans is the same owners, but the food, IMO, isnt a patch on the Bombay. Everytime Ive been there, theyve drowned everything in coriander. Ive nothing against using a bit of it as a garnish, but when you cant see the curry for the herbs, its a bit much.

I'd reccomend the Kashmir on Spital hill. Again like the mangla bring yr pints from over the road. And the dude running it is a scream...has us in stitches.

The food is top notch and V reasonable as well. Brilliant.

Sorry but ITS NOT A DANGEROUS PLACE! I live just past the Mangla, Yea it was pretty dodgy 10 years ago but it's much better now! The sooner people stop saying such rubbish the better!

Why not try it, the food is great at both the Mangla and the Kashmir and I honestly don't think you will get shot / murdered / beaten / robbed / or any of the other bad things people seem to expect to happen!

Jeeeeeez!

Everest is Ok on chesterfield road.
Saying that though any curry house that doesn't put so much colouring in the food is fine by me.

Indian Chef in Crookes is my personal favourite. Really good value, the Mutton Mheti is the best I’ve had. Not only do they let you bring across pints from the pub across the road (The Ball, a nice little boozer) but they take back your empties at the end o the night.

Also the staff couldn’t be friendlier, they made us up a doggy bag of left overs and gave us free popadoms and pickles to “make it a proper meal”

Try the Star of Sall just of the end of the bypass into Chesterfield, always fresh cooked with plenty of taste, and has a no smoking area, so you don't go home stinking like an old ashtray.

The Kashmir is by far the best curry experience I've ever had. They'll put almost anything together for you if it's not on the menu. The food is excellent, it's super cheap and kid friendly (but not full of screaming ones all the time). And the tables and chairs give it a real Community Centre feel - there really is no other place like it!

I agree with neeek (how many e's?) - it's not that dodgy round there, like some people have said. We always walk back down into town afterwards and have never had any grief. Anyway, the best way to boost an area is to go and use their local amenities and spend some cash there, isn't it?

I think the food in SB's is ok, but the service is absolutely bloody terrible!
We went a couple of times after going to the Showroom (that's 2 seperate times, not twice in one night! ;0) )
Each time we wern't drunk or rude, but staff took ages to come to your table, or they would see you asking them to come over and ignore you.
When the waiter was clearing our table away when he finally did arrive, he took the dirty cutlery and put it in his trouser pockets!
We then said we'd like the bill, waited around 15 mins for someone to come, but they didn't, so we made our way to the front to pay and left. This wasn't particularly busy as well. Do they not want our money or what?!

I think the food there is ok, but as for the service, I wouldn't go back there - I'd rather go to the Balti King. Hey I know the stories but I've been on and off for 7 years and never had "delhi belly"!

I would be interested to people opinions on the best (or indeed the most authentic) curry houses in Sheffield.

As someone who has a passion for the food, I am wondering if there any any hidden gems out there worth going to?

My favourite so far is probably Elinas on Sharrowvale Road, though Everest on Chesterfield Road scores highly for its unigue menu and presentation.

my mum makes the best curry ever, I like yellow dahl with spinach and coriander, and "aloo gobi" a potato and cauliflower curry with more taste than imaginable mm shes great :)

If you want a take away curry Kashmir Curry House on Spital Hill is a fave - it looks shady from the outside but is well nice!

The food at the Amraj is ok if you don't mind waiting an hour between courses! the last time we decided to go there it took almost three sodding hours from start to finish, and when I complained all I got from the man in charge was "we are short staffed" WTF ! get more staff in

I've not been to many others, but why bother once you've discovered the Mangla? It is fantastic value and I cant imagine anyone being dissapointed. It's the only thing I miss about living in pittsmoor, I dont get there very often now, yum making my mouth water, I lived on them when I was pregnant.
My partner reckons it is physicaly impossible to be unhappy when eating a good curry, something to do with the chemicals your body releases to deal with the "trauma" of the spicey food.A good curry should be a whole experience, not just a meal!(I must go now to stir my mr.pataks, and put on some rice).
If youve never tried the Mangla your missing out.My Dad (who wouldnt usually venture to that end of town-he's far too posh!!)took some convincing to give it a go, now thats where he takes all his footballing mates on their nights out.

Don't know if anyone's already said this, if I'm totally honest, I can't be ar*ed to read through 5 pages of posts on Indian Restaurants. But I went to Cha Cha's on Fitzwilliam Street (just down from Devonshire Green) last night, and it was EXCELLENT! £8 for eat as much as you like Indian buffet, and the quality was lovely. Also very nice and clean, and friendly.

I highly reccommend it!

EDIT: Decided I SHOULD really read it, and no one has mentioned it! Give it a try. It's apparately cheaper at different times of the day, too.

I've just spent sometime reading the reviews and it seems to me that we have some good places to eat curry in our area
my favourite is the one way out at Stocksbridge it is small gets crowded you might end up with a wobbley chair but the food is the best and
they let you bring your own lager or wine in
Threshers nearby have a cold fridge and a wide choice so a cheap night out can be had

I have eaten there more times than I can remember and never had a problem...is it definately food poisioning (confirmed by a doctor ?)

Even so, I would be VERY surprised to find it had been from there.
The kitchen & restaurant are always spotless and the ingredients used are always fresh every day.

The hygiene standards are far better than most of the restaurants I have been to (worked in a lot of them as well)......

I was put off Nirmals By the staff there.
Theres attentive and downright creepy .
They just hovered around the table throughout the meal., also they seemed really upset when none of us wanted a sweet.
We felt like telling them to sod off and leave us to eat our meal in peace.
The Indiam at the top of Handsworth Hill I think its called the Lawajab is excelent slightly unusual menu too.
