View Full Version : Anyone making their own christmas cards this year?
kittenta 02-11-2006, 09:45 I'm going to start making them at the weekend with the kids. Still need a couple of bits so a trip to hobbycraft might be in order
I've got some quilling papers and some small snowflakes, reigndeers and santa signs to stick on, could do with some backing paper but might just use some christmas wrapping paper!
I cross stitch some of my xmas cards :)
kittenta 03-11-2006, 10:08 Have you made any yet?
I've already made a start on mine.I did about 15 larger ones last week and at the weekend prepared another 50 smaller ones. These now have the inners in them and are just ready for the toppers and peel offs. I can't work anymore and my family are now grown up and out of Sheffield, so it does pass me a lot of time, some days too much:hihi:
Kittenta, I did advertise the mags on the forum about June of this year but no response. I have quite a few past Christmas specials so if you can make use of them and collect them p.m. me.
Have you made any yet?
I have to admit, no, not yet. I'm still up to my eyes with the xmas sampler for next weeks school fayre lol
kittenta 03-11-2006, 22:37 Shelagh - I would love to take them off you if I hadn't got so many myself :D My other half hates the tub full i have without adding to it lol. Thank you for the offer though  maybe someone else could make use of them?
Hayley1 - You need to get a move on!!!! Tell us how you get on
lol will do...have you entered this competiton yet hun?
kittenta 04-11-2006, 12:31 I haven't no, I'm afraid I got rather confused (you'll get used to that) lol. I saw one where you have to put pictures on or something?? see
yeah, you sew an autumn themed pic (there's lots of pumpkins), take a photo, and post it on the comp (if you don't have a photo hosting site, you can use mine if you like...but it's free to get one. (closing date is 30th nov)
The link in my signature is a simple weekly draw for people who chat there, this weeks' prize is a mirabillia chart, stargazer.
but it's all in the same forum.
I failed my own deadline...I still have the last box to fill in the background, and all the backstitching to do yet (but I have an excuse miss...my lilun is poorly) lol
kittenta 06-11-2006, 11:42 Oh no, I hate deadlines, not good at keeping to them :D I hope your little one recovers soon
Oh I like em, well, the buzz it gives me lol.
Thanks for that, he was well enough to go to nursery this afternoon, so I got a bit more done lol
kittenta 07-11-2006, 12:50 ahhh I love it when they go to nursery, although mine started school full time in September and I miss her soooooo much  and I still don't get more crafting done, or more college work come to think of it, oops
I spoke too soon! just as it seemed he was getting better, get knocked back down again, he's worse than ever now :(
It's always the way, when you expect you'll have more time to get things done, it always seems there's LESS time very odd. lol
Hows your cards coming along?
kittenta 09-11-2006, 19:28 they aren't coming along, i forgot to buy the card lol Oh well, I feel a trip to hobbycraft is needed ;)

kittenta 14-11-2006, 21:02 I can't believe I haven't started any yet :(
Darkdreamer 17-11-2006, 01:13 I would love to make my own xmas cards but i just dont know where to start any advice?
kittenta 17-11-2006, 08:57 A trip to a craft shop is usually a good start  No, start with basic things. Get some peel offs and a couple of fancy bits to put on one. Concentrate on a particular occasion. Just have a play with different designs, it depends what craft you are in to :) I cross stitch some cards and use quilling on others. What crafts do you do at the minute?

Maybe you should do a craft fayre and sell them instead, you could make some money back (or give it to charity)
I think this is my first post in this forum...
Oddball as I am, I'm thinking about creating laminated christmas cards this year. I've got a heap of things like star confetti, feathers etc, and plan to laminate them into A5 or A6 size pockets
Has anybody else ever tried laminating things other than paper?
kittenta 21-11-2006, 21:01 Hi Strix, I've laminated pictures with all sorts on them before and didn't have a problem Although if the stars etc you use or quite thick they do stick out but it looks really good!
Welcome to the craft group by the way
thanks Kittenta :)
I was thinking of leaving the card out of these 'cards' too :D
So you can see right through them :)
Do you think this is going to work? :?
kittenta 22-11-2006, 12:31 thanks Kittenta :)

Talk about a novelty card, why didn't I think of that! The only way to know is if you try it  Give it a go, if it doesn't work you'll have had fun trying :D and I don't see why it couldn't work. Just make sure that whatever you use on the cards is the same on both sides. So if you use for example a father christmas, make sure he i'sn't just all white on the back if you are going to be able to see through the card. Although, I don't suppose it matters. Preference I suppose, have fun and let us know how you get on :)
Talk about a novelty card, why didn't I think of that! Because I have a reputation for being an oddball and you don't ;)
If there's a set way of doing something, I have to go back to first principles and begin again, hopefully coming to a different conclusion to the accepted 'norm' - but I am an engineer ;)
I wonder if laminated flowers would keep, or do they need to be pressed and dried first?
kittenta 23-11-2006, 10:02 now laminating flowers was something my daughter suggested in the summer, I didn't try it though, I would think you'd have to press and dry first though, don't know, something else for you to try, if you ever get off here :hihi:
hey, don't forget to show us some pix, I'm intrigued :D

Ok, anybody know where I can get A5 or A6 laminating pouches for a reasonable price?
not that there are many flowers left in the garden to try it out on just now :hihi:
kittenta 23-11-2006, 19:55 netto had some on offer, or there is a discount shop in hillsborough that often has them in cheap.
Harleykim 28-11-2006, 09:51 I've started making some christmas cards :D
I'll post some pictures when I'm done :)
I plumped for a pack of A6 size - 50 for £4.99 in WHSmith - as it was convenient to where we were shopping (Rotherham Parkgate)
I decided postcard format was less faffing, so chose the smaller ones - the recipients can worry about where to display them, and if they are going to keep them as bookmarks or ice-scrapers :P
I've no idea when I'll get started on them now, as I've just agreed to expand our household for a couple of weeks by one little diggle who needs alot of attention
If I manage to get this project off the ground I'll post pics :)
kittenta 06-12-2006, 08:44 One little diggle
kittenta 06-12-2006, 08:54 You mean king?
