Everybody knows about the Freelance websites but how many of you guys are acctually making money over there or have been working on such websites?

For now I am working on GetaFreelancer.com (http://www.investigations.ro/win).
Although I have worked for over 1 year for Rentacoder.com (http://www.rentacoder.com)website but for the past 9-10 months I get my projects from GetaFreelancer.com (http://www.investigations.ro/win) . I like the GAF one better cause projects are valued much higher than on RAC ( where some duds were offering $30 max for a complete website and so on ). Do you know any other good websites beside these 2 ?

I eanrned about 3000-4000$ up untill now in just 1-2 years ...and Im pretty ok with it.

I've looked at using GAF but find that it's easier for me to get work through word of mouth or existing contracts.

Most of these sites are fine for picking up little bits of work here and there but it seems nigh on impossible to get enough work to kep a business ticking over. Let's say $4000 over 18 months - the high end of your income - that's about $220 a month. That's about £120 a month - I can pick that up over here in half a day contracting.

The sites are a very intereesting idea - I've used a UK based one with more success - but there are too many people doing the work for portfolio or beer-money, as well as the Indian and Eastern European shops.

I didn't say 4000$ in 2 years is a lot but when you take in consideration that I worked less than 3-4 hours per week ...and I must say there have been times when I didn't do anything for 2-3 months ... it's ok.

If this is the only thing you do ... and you work 4 hours per day ( let's say ) I would estimate an income of over 2000$/month since right now I am working on some websites ( 300-500$ each ) that I work about 4-5 full days to deliver ...

So it's all on how much you are interested in working... I like it cause it's like a totally optional thing .. if I got like 3-4 hours of free time ... why not take a small project ( some banners etc ) and get 50-100$ for it ... not like when you're having a job and YOU HAVE TO GO TO WORK EVERY DAY at a certain time :D

And that's only me ... Im building mostly flash websites, banners, intros etc ... a PHP guy could win a lot more as these type of projects cost more money. And I repeat .. this can be as an alternative occupation to what you regulary do. I have heared about teams of 2-3 programmers/designers teaming up to do complete eachother on these freelancer websites and they can earn about 5000-6000$ per month ... I have seen projects that cost 50.000$ in there or even more ( big portals and so on ). So these websites can really be a blessing for good people :P

www.Freelancers.net is another site geared for UK

That's the one I use over here. :)

I've had a few bits of work through that site.

I think it's a good point that some of the prices asked for by the people wanting work doing are ludicrusly low - I don't believe it's good for the IT business as a whole for prices to be driven down.

So how does it work ? How many coders are in there ? How are the prices ? Examples ? What's their fee ? How do you get the money ?

Can foreign ppl work in there ?

So far I have been trying out several Freelance websites but as far as I concerned GetaFreelancer (http://www.investigations.ro/win) is no.1

They got good prices on projects ( on RAC they're going down a lot ), pay through lots of methods includin Western Union... and the fee is only 10% of the project or 10$ per month for GOLD members .... which is really really GREAT for coders mostly. I curious about your site though ...

After reviewing all websites ... I do believe GetaFreelancer (http://www.investigations.ro/win) is still the best. One thing ... is the GOLD MEMBERSHIP which owns all other websites.
