View Full Version : Danger to pedestrians

I am posting to express my deep concern about the safety of pedestrians wishing to cross Normanton Hill road. I cross that road every morning, and to be totally honest, its a nightmare! There are no traffic lights, no speed reduction scheme's in place, or anything. So to cross that road, I have to risk my life. Not one of the drivers slows down to let myself or other pedestrians cross, so I usually find myself waiting 10 minutes or so, until the roads are clear. Its terrible.

I have asked my family and friends about what action I could take, concerning this road, but they don't think I would be taken seriously. I have heard that before I was born (approx 20 years ago) A petition was signed and sent to the council, but nothing was done.

This is something I feel very strongly about, because I will not risk my life and I can't sit by and watch others risk theirs. Something has to be done. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

try and cross it on the hill side, as you can see both ways coming

Which side? The one nearest the 123 bus stop? or the one which has a path leading to the carpenter flats? (Where there is some road works, currently) ?

Do you mean riley's?
I mean a bit away from there. There's some white ballards at the end of Hunter's lane, which leads onto Normanton hill road. Its there, where I have the nightmare task of crossing the road. There's a junction opposite the white railings, which seems to cause quite a bit of trouble, for people wishing to cross.

A similar problam is that a lot of drivers don't bother stopping for the Zebra crossings down Shoreham Street.

There is only one way, that is to complain to the council, again and again and again, until they are so fed up with you they will do something. Badger them unmercifull, make your voice heard, they will act if you are persistant. :D

Did this ever get resolved?

Can the forum now throw it's weight behind the cause?
