The government, quite rightly, is pushing for the use of "green" energy to help combat the effects of burning fossil fuel.

Why don't they make a start and arrange for public buildings to have solar panels fitted to their roofs? Two prime examples in Sheffield are the tax office on Young St and the Adsetts Centre on Pond St. Both are south facing and both have a huge expanse of roof.

O.K. I know it would be expensive but it would set a good example which would be highly visible to members of the public and it would save money in the long run by providing hot water for the buildings.

Firstly, I'm impressed by this government besides myself, and these strategies might even have won them my vote which would otherwise have been going to the green party.

Secondly, I'd rather that they put money into researching methods for national implementation of distributed environmentally friendly power sources than doing it on a costly one building at a time basis and ultimately achieving less. Failing that I guess it would be a good idea though, in terms of familiarising the public to alternative power sources.
