South Yorkshire, particularly Sheffield may be remembered for The Full Monty (hardly flattering) and Threads (some folks seemed to think Sheffield actually looked like that), and Kes, which does nothing for Barnsley, but who remembers the program back in the late 70s/early 80s called "Its no joke living in Barnsley", which hardly flattered that town, but it seems the worst was a sarcastic wind up around 25 years ago of Rotherham on Look North I believe, where a summary of the town was drawn up, and one of the pieces featured its 'wildlife' and promptly showed scrapyard guard dogs. Obviously folks draw their unflattering opinions of South Yorkshire on things like these, and against this background, perhaps people should show less hostility to change.

Can't remember what show it was on, but I'm sure Jeremy Clarkson once did a spoof holiday report on Rotherham.

I wonder if scrapyard guard dogs reappeared as wildlife again.
