Im currently doing some research on the Lower Don valley and am looking to get some feedback from the people of Sheffield on what they think about how the Lower Don valley has been redeveloped since the 1980's. I would really appreciate it if you could give me your thoughts on the area.

Do you think the lower Don valley is an attractive urban environment?

[B]Do you feel that the area is unique and distinctive due to the integration of new developments and the retention of old industrial sites such as Forgemasters?

OR is do you think it is simply another development project which could be found in any city in England?

Would you demolish the old steelworks in the area such as Forgemasters or retain them?

The Forgemasters plant on Attercliffe Common does look a little incongruous on a thoroughfare which now has mainly retail, leisure and office uses. The interests of the industry and its employees should be the first consideration, however. The plants on the other side of the river on Brightside Lane are in a more self-contained area and have some heritage value in showing how much of the area would once have looked.

The Lower Don area in general is basically out-of-town retail/leisure land and has limited character. Maybe more could be done to 're-invent' the Attercliffe district and perhaps bring in more residential development?
