as especially in shops with narrow Ilse apparentely there's 8 deaths a year involving them should they be some training involved and may be a licence

actually, I find the scootas a godsend, seeing as I struggle with my mobility.

and we've done the grumbling about scootas, AND the issue of people using them receiving adequate training within this thread:-

http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=139724&highlight=shopmobility

and I explained, at length, that the scootas we hire out to our service users are not sent out until we are confident that the person is confident in using the machines.

There is a guy in Swallownest who drives it like a racing driver. He speeds round corners and is going to hit someone one day.

I have been hit a couple of times in shops by twits on these things.

Fine idea but training is needed so they don't make you need one as well.
I have, as I said, been hit twice and in both cases the person who hit me blamed me for standing in the wrong place.

Must try that when I'm driving my van past one. I'll give them a bump and tell them they were driving in the wrong place.

I was once pinned up against the freezer unit in Tesco by a guy in an electric wheelchair.
I wouldn't have minded too much but he never even said sorry

That's the bit that P'd me off.

Just this week a woman asked me if there was a charge for using a scooter in a shop, i didn't know, she said, well I don't really need one but I'd like to try one out one day

Well, now that you mention it... I'm often surprised at the get-outta-my-way attitude of people who use the scooters. It doesn't seem to be an inability to drive the scooter properly but an unwillingness to look out for pedestrians. They sort of let the throttle go to their heads. And, as Draggletail mentioned, they often don't apologize.

Of course, I've also been rammed in the ankles by plenty of baby strollers and shopping carts (trolleys?), but at least they're not motorized.

The only thing that annoys me is people who are ‘annoyed’ about mobility scooters and all other appliances for the disabled. I wonder, will the OP still be annoyed if ever the times comes, and i hope it doesn’t, when he/she finds an urgent need to have to use one.

As for the eight deaths a year, I have to wonder about it as a statistic. Do we know whether any or all of those deaths were natural and occurred when the people driving those scooters just simply died?

as i said a friend of mine is a mobility scooter user and agrees and it was in fact him that told me of the statistic and yes i will need one in the future but Ive always been a fighter so it will not be as soon as some with the same condition as i ave as i said in SOME CASES it is laziness that stops them leaving them out side the shops although they may be security worries also that should be addressed to reduce the use of these things in shops were sometimes you cant even walk down Ilse that are cluted up with packing as specially in the netto were they wait till its full before packing shelves

You miss the point. It's not the scooters or the fact that some people need them but the selfish way they drive expecting that other people just accept that they are hit by these things.

If I were to walk around bumping into others all the time with no care for them I would expect a few harsh words from them. Why should scooter users get away with it ?

OK it's rough if you have no choice but to use one but that sod all reason to drive into people with the things.

i put my hands up and admit to being a ankle rammer! i do not use my buggy (stroller) very often and when i do i do not seem to be able to go a single journey without hitting someones ankles, however i ALWAYS apologies and hang my head in shame!

as for scooters, i think they are great for the people who use them but they do need training, i almost run a guy over as he was driving in the road on one of these.

They only annoy me when they aim for me and run me over and then blame me!

there is one thing though. like i said a friend as one that ad broken down a couple of times leaving him in the lerch so he tried asking AA RAC and Greenflag if they would accept him as a member were they would for a car but not for the scooter basically as these are becoming popular someone could get rich on a breakdown recovery for these vehicles and probably on setting up training centres for when it does happen

Like most complainers you tend to exaggerate. Unless of course you have a particular ‘speed’ in mind, said two or three miles an hour!

I agree. I only use a wheelchair when shopping but surprise surprise! It’s usually shoppers who bump into ME — even when they can actually see me coming down an aisle!

However, I have to say that most of them do apologise — but that’s in Manchester where most people have the good manners that are sadly lacking in Sheffield.

Never mind mobility scooters, pushchairs and prams are they worst! people pushing one automatically assume its their right of way and shove aside anyone who might get in the way!
