I have just bought the Rudebox cd and cos I spend so much time in my little room with my pc I always put the music onto media player. It won't even acknowledge it's in the drive. Has anyone got any ideas please.
It does say bonus content available through opendisc. Does any one know what I'm doing wrong.
btw it does play in cd player downstairs and all my other music has been put on media successfully.:(

Perhaps your PC's got taste? And won't play Robbie Williams cos it rightly thinks he's crap! :D

I'm sorry, I'm just in a cheeky mood today :D

Sounds like DRM - Digital Rights Management.

It's protection systems put on to CDs and DVDs to stop them being played on PCs.

on top of the above, you can join the large number of decenting voices across the globe at the behaviour of corporations like sony and MS.
one of many DRM petitions (http://www.petitiononline.com/sonydrm/)

I take it now everyone is guilty regardless of being innocent. What happened to being able to make a back up if you owned the original?
So if SheShe wanted to put Robbie on an MP3 player she/he couldn't do that either?

:hihi: I know exactly what you mean....I mean half the time I wish I could play ANY cd and DVD on my pc without caring about that silly copy protection rubbish. Also moan to the record company...I got a free CD that way :)

You were never allowed (under UK law) to make a back-up of any copyrighted works).

Don't ask me about the rights and wrongs of it - sheshe asked why she couldn't play it, I told her.

I have no idea what the system in use is, so can't comment about whether she can play it on an MP3 player or a hairdryer for that matter.

I think Sheshe means that there is extra material on the cd which is meant to be played on a PC. (much like other artists have done in the past) but the pc isn't recognising it.

Try holding the shift key down as you insert the CD, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

I've calmed down now - the long lay down in a dark room has worked wonders.

I never thought that I would Slyly lay down somwhere Soft to recover would happen - but it has.

Thanks guys and gals.

That's open to debate depending on who you talk to. I've seen credible sources saying yes and others saying no. I'm still not entirely sure what the legal viewpoint is. With software you are allowed, not sure with music.

Software is dependant upon the licence:).

Music is (still) illegal to even record to magnetic tape (let alone CD/DVD/MP3 player/Ipod etc). However, this may change soon.
According to an article on ElReg (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/10/30/ippr_copyright/) (The IPPR recommends that home taping (and transferring CDs to an iPod) should finally be legalized).

Seeing as for increasing numbers of people, their music kit is their PC, that's not the most intelligent plan.

From http://www.fast.org.uk/faq.asp

"The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1998 specifically allows the making of back-up copies of software, but usually only one copy providing it is for lawful use. If there is any doubt over what constitutes a back-up, check your software licence agreement or the software publisher."

So by law it is allowed :)

Sheshe is just ticked off because she uses her PC like a stereo, she wants to listen to Robbie via the PC, not copy it, rip it or anything

It says check your software licence agreement to see what constitutes a back-up. It doesn't say check the software licence agreement to see if it's allowed :)

But the licence can forbid a back-up;).

fnkysknky

If the law expressly permits a back-up then a licence can't forbid it - despite what they actually write in the licence. Just because you write something in a contract doesn't mean you can make your own laws up :)

We could be here all day :)

Just thought I'd let anyone interested know that I have managed to put it on my media player.
Just don't ask me how cos I don't know. I kept pressing this then that and eventually this morning I succeeded.:)
