An old chap once told me that as a youngster he had
crawled through the flagpole that stands in Barkers Pool.
The pole is apparantly a hollow metal tube and was
lying on the ground while some maintenance work was being
done.
True? Still not sure.

I have an old wartime book showing a parade in Barkers Pool, and the flag pole looks like a wood one, and far too thin to be hollow.
