donuticus 27-10-2006, 21:27 I have to do a photography assignment for my degree. I was wondering if anyone could reccommend either a nature centre or some historical ruins in or around the city centre.
Many thanks

Superlative 27-10-2006, 21:46 Manor Castle is steeped in history........but dont let the local kids see the camera! Manor Lodge on Manor Lane was actually where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned.
purdyamos 27-10-2006, 22:04 General Cemetery. (http://www.gencem.org/) Just off Ecclesall Road. Naturally wild with lots of old ruins and crumbling tombstones. PM me if you want to know more - I work there.

I can really recommend many of the ten nature reserves that are managed around the City by the Sheffield Wildlife Trust
http://www.wildsheffield.com/NatureReserves.asp
From Blacka Moor on the edge of the Peak District on Sheffield’s south-western fringe to Sunnybank in the very centre of the city in Broomhall, Sheffield Wildlife Trust’s nature reserves protect wildlife and enrich the lives of people.
Chosen for their diverse mix of locally and nationally important habitats and species, the nature reserves have something to offer everyone and are well-loved by the communities. Evenm at this time of year you will have some great material for your photographs .
Why not post them onto the forum so that we can all see them
Let us know how you get on

Butterfly centre, can't remember location, I'm sure someone else will?

Yes, Mel. I'm one of the "old ruins" :hihi:
Phanerothyme 26-11-2006, 20:44 Butterfly centre, can't remember location, I'm sure someone else will?
South Anston butterfly house.
Got some friendly primates, and a stunning sport (not albino) peacock in pure white - if you can get it to display for you it's a killer shot.
mr chris 26-11-2006, 22:13 I'll second (or third) the General Cemetary. Also Endcliffe Park, Graves Park - there are a lot of places!
Try what's left of the steelworks, canal, Conisborough or the castle at Castleton or even Lady's Bridge on the end of the Wicker, lot of history.
