View Full Version : Pike & Heron Pub in Tinsley
After several new managers and closures the pub is closed again and the lease returned to Mansfield Breweries. Some local residents have had questionaires from the council asking if the would like it as a snooker hall and cafe.
Since the nearest snooker hall was raided and closed down for being a drugs den for local pakistani's it does not seem to me to be a good idea.
The pakistanis have now started on the Fish and Chip shop.
The current labour council seems insistant on using Tinsley as the City Toilet and letting it run into total chaos. You can tell this by looking at the rest of the town facilities including its so called play area (The Rec).
Can the council turn a pub into a snooker hall, and if so how do we stop it ?
just answer the questioaire saying you don't want it
i agree 100% but i have a feeling this will be deleted,i aint racist either. asian lads use our pub and most are decent people but the young teenages seem to think they have to be bad boy gangster types......they have no respect at all. much like alot of white and black teenagers really.
I agree it is teenage years problem. They seem to be very influenced by what they see locally, on the telly and the music they listen to.
Talking to a local policeman he can now use the dispersal powers as used in Firvale but this will not stop the cancer.
The Tinsley Forum do a great job with its initiatives but its like swimming against the tide. Is Tinsley now too far down the pan to be saved from total ruin by the lack of effort of its occupants?
Also the new housing developments proposed for the lower Don Valley. I have heard mentioned that they will be overspill houses for the bad council tenants and new refugees. Could this just be a rumour, I never saw the plans?

These are mearly observations.
Just a few queries about your post...
The asians' what has daubed the graffiti??
What's a "businesse's"?
And about your" message to the Asian's" ... your message is to the Asian's what?
(Remembering the elements of grammar, that an apostrophe indicates the posessive.. "the children's crayons", or "John's book", or a missing letter, eg in the word you used, above, "arnt".. it should be "aren't"
What's a flee?
What is squallor? I know what "squalor" is...
What is a mearly and how is it able to observe something?
And, lastly... one, final question...
Where would you be, without the local Asian-owned off-licence from which to buy your supply of "White-Lightning " Cider?
Come on, if you are going to post a rant like this, at least post it legibly, and grammatically!

remarks like this dont add anything to the debate all it suggests is that the other person is right and the only way you can say anything is by been insulting:o
Seem to have picked up a few forum idiots on this one. The subject is very dear to me so I can cope with discussions with spelling errors.
Handsworth Forum recently had a party in the park to raise money for new facilities, even Sean Bean was there. I would like to help in getting funding for Tinlsey, the big BUT is: Will it be wrecked agian by the same mindless idiots.
How can you talk to these lads without coming across as racist?
There is a slovakian population now which is being targeted as well as the chip shop.
MOD: Unsubstantiated allegations removed.
Not all residents are like this though but they do keep their mouth shut when they should be helping more. The code of silence must be broken if Tinsley is going to get better. The parents of these kids aught to be punished too for their lack of teaching respect.

Just posted a reply about what happened to the co-op but it was duly removed.
It mentioned something about the people that used to intimidate the co-op staff and something to do with its current owners.
Not that they are the same or anything.

What? Those of us who can spell correctly are disabled? Huh? ;)
Actually, I get your drift, perfectly, retep...
Did *you* get the point, that *I* made, in my original post where I used a smilie?
My point was about the impetus to use a spell-checker. You can spell check, and be grammatical, even with something like dyslexia ...

Amazing! doesnt matter what the subject is you always turn to insults and try to embarras the users that may have a problem with such things as spelling.
As to what makes you perfect in every way.....I don't know!..
try being a sport and contribute to the discussion in the thread and maybe the threads won't turn into slinging matches!

Hmm, that is an interesting theory, Derek. Let's see if it holds any water?
Ok, let’s see…
Threads I have subscribed to (latest tally)...
Sheffield Wednesday… No insults there, in fact, I even asked to purchase a Wednesday-supporter’s artwork, for my Wednesday –supporting boss.
Funniest TV moment… No, no insults there…
Good Pubs… No, can’t find anything remotely controversial there…
Moving to Sheffield from the USA… nope….
Thatcher offer for Sheffield Residents… Erm… well, it’s about Thatcher, so I *was* a bit blunt about my feelings about what the old crow did to Sheffield’s industry. A partial “hands-up on that one
How to pronounce- What’s your view?… A discussion about linguistics… no, I’m afraid I can’t help support your claims that anyone could find anything off-colour there….
Let me see… try the next thread…
Launderette around Highfields area… Nope, nothing there, unless you think that confirming that a certain business *is* where another subscriber believes it to be, and offering directions there is controversial?
OK, The Full Monty Thread…. Again confirming a location… nothing so far…
Diabetes… Advice on managing a chronic and potentially disabling condition… controversy and insults? No. None there.
Houses on parson cross.. I express my sadness at the loss of houses, and my surprise that the council did not manage the situation better… no, there’s no insults or controversy there..
“Blair’s son wins a place at Oxford"… Minor insults, admittedly,at legitimate targets, expressing my dismay at how biased the system is of getting into prestigious universities.
Sheffield dialect.. no sorry to disappoint you, nothing insulting there…
Sheffield Star these days…I say “the star has gone through two re-vamps in recent years.
Firstly, the paper changed from a broadsheet (think Guardian-style size) to tabloid (as it is now)
then a few years later, it altered the typefaces. (it's got a more "Daily Express" feel to the typeface these days.)
it also began to feature a "pull-out" leisure section, with a "what's on" section, a TV/radio section, and within that, a nightly "special features Section" be it music, women's issues, health, bygone times section, or whatever.”
Insult? Controversy? No, ‘fraid not; I am going to have to disprove your claim yet again…
So, how many threads have I listed, so far?
Thirteen, not including the Pike and Heron thread.
Out of the thirteen, one is “having a go” at the system, (Blair’s son…) one is having a go at the woman who, IMO, basically, shafted this country (Thatcher) and the third, “having a go” at someone for spouting racist invective, which was also IMO, unfounded, and barely literate drivel. (with something of my tongue in my cheek.
Shall we go back any further, Derek, and see whether I can disprove your comments further?
I could bring up “Sheffield gales, 1962”, where I relate my family history, in it’s social context…
I, Robot, where we discuss a film, and how closely or otherwise it follows an original story…
What about the Devonshire quarter thread? No?
Beaver Hill school? Private landlords? No, and, erm, no. That’s nineteen threads, including the P-H thread. Twenty, if you count this one, My rebuttal to your comments. Out of this twenty, I have “insulted” one person actually on here, and in the other two, 1) I acted as an Iconoclast against the woman who, IMO “killed” Great Britain, and our Steel, Coal and other industries, and 2) Railed against an unfair and biased system of university selection.
TBH, I don’t think that’s bad going, and nothing at all to hang my head for, really, do you?
PT
Sitting up here in the umpires chair, that seems like ............................... Advantave PT.
Well at least with it having such problems, the properties are the cheapest in Sheffield, but you would have to pay me to live up there, not the other way round.

Oh Sorry!......I take it that all the spelling was correct in these threads!
Mod: Can you two do this in PM please, not the open forum.
It seems like there was trouble last night outside the Pike & Heron. Two rival pakistani groups were quarreling about something probably to do with who controlling the area. They were very loud and locals alerted the police.
There were about ten local men, not youths, and when the police car turned up with two very suprised officers they didn't hang around long.
Should be having a Forum meeting soon to meet the new owners of the Pike & Heron who most likely will be behind it closing in the first place.
I used to pop in to the Pike and Heron a while back as my Brother lives close by........It was a nice cosy pub in the old days and as with everything else these days.....If the people that frequented the pub (decent people) Stood up and did something about what is happening in the area it may have stood a chance.
Alas! Nothing ever gets sorted out unless people get together and make a stance against the scum that seem to be eroding not only Tinsley but other areas as well.
It will only be a matter of time before the good people of the area move out and let Tinsley slip in to the abyss.
carcrash 28-08-2004, 03:54 I used to nip in to The Pike a few years ago. It was where I used to go and meet a mate as he lived in Rotherham.
I have drank all over Sheffield and I can honesly say it was one of the worst pubs I have ever been in.
Full of racist idiots who didn't like anybody apart from a close nit circle of ***** who were locals. I'm glad that the building is going to be put to good use.
Just goes to prove that most of the residents were right when they said the people behind all the intimidation will be wanting the place for themsleves.
Im glad the police have done a great job in finding these culprits:clap:
Whatever you say about ethnics in any thread on here! if they are negative you will be accused of racialism and the sections removed.
However!......I do seem to notice that the political correctness of the forum is subsiding a little when it comes to a mod giving opinions.
The way that the Pike and Heron story has been put forward is factual regarding the ethnic community trying to take over the area in any which way that they can.
Can the mods please refrain from removing items that are factual to the people that live around the area and keep the forum as a place that accepts free speech and opinions.
Well Derek, before you start jumping down anyones throats, the post contained allegations and personal references to persons not represented on this Forum
I removed it because there could be legal implications not to. It had nothing to do with 'ethnics' or 'political correctness'. Modding around here always has to have an eye out for potential problems like this.
Sorry if you don't like it, but is that clear now?

NP Tony........I agree withyou on the legal implications and understand your concerns........
Cheers Derek  It's hard enough around here!
Now back to the subject, what community groups are interested, and for what? Or is that just a notion about something that 'would be nice'?

They did elect Enoch Powell, how else do you think he got to be an MP?
Britain is a marvellous place to live, why do you think immigrants like Portillo's and Howard's parents wanted to live here and see their children grow up to be Britons?
I have heard some great news recently about "The Rec" and that it is due to be modernised with a big grant. Thats along with a new community centre.
There are lots of people in the area working towards a better Tinsley and the shoots of their success are starting to come up through the ground.
The area will be a better place soon but it will be a rough ride with certain groups wanting its decay for there own benefit. They will not win, no way!
Internetowl 24-09-2004, 13:21 If its the same piece of land - just off Bawtry Road then its about to become a 'super casino'.
But looking through this thread it is clear that the problems highlighted in Tinsley (the estate neither Sheffield or Rotherham Councils want) are common to other estates - and other cities.
I'm currently reading a book called 'pizza wars' which is a true story written about life in the northern england fast food business. The episodes identified in this thread are very similar to the developments in this book.
My view on Tinsley, is its ripe for development if they can get the clearance - looks like the councils are allowing the local youth to do this for them so they can justify their future plans.
thought u'd like to know that the police are patrolling tinsley via tinsley park and other area due to trouble with asian lads and the afganistan group who lives in raby street,i know since i,ve been out since 10:30pm lastnite.
Not seen a sausage of any police in the area, must have been a quick dart in and then out again.
I've not had any trouble with the new families that have moved in over the last few months but I have heard that they are experiencing a few problems with the youths, as us all. Not a very good welcome to the country after escaping genoside.
I cant see the new adults wanting to go to the local pub as they seem to all have young families. Also they cant work yet so they have no cash to spend in the area.
theres been an accident in tinsley via sheffield rd involving a red car and a lorry carring a crane.there was 7 fire engines 6 police cars and an ambulance, must of been pretty bad.
Great news, and thank you to the council people !!
The application to change the use of the Pike & Heron building has been turned down.
There has been another application sent but not sure of its contents. Hopefully more than the residents in the flats nearby will have a say in the Pubs future.
The area seems to be very quiet at the moment and again would like to thank the people concerned with their great effort in the run up to 5 Nov.
