............he is now Mrs Bunny. Went for jabs today and to assess if he was ready for neutering, vet 99% sure Mr Bunny is a Mrs.........not a problem at all except daughter insists he/she should still be called Mr Bunny.

Only difference will be who gets to be the delectable Mrs Bunny's life partner, we'll be looking for a baby boy now. Vet has said we can't have her done until about Jan time as she will be between 5-6 months then and has said if we are getting a companion we shouldn't wait too long as it gets harder for them to bond.......is this true?

:hihi:

I don't know about that being true, but you do know that the bond between you/your daughter and mrs Bunny will be lessened when you introduce another bun? Because they'll bond stronger than you can with them

thanks bobbybunny, i have thought about that, but Mrs Bunny spends several hours a day on her own, during the week, it would perhaps be better for her to have a companion and we will just have to make the most of whatever bond there remains.

Age can cause problems, if you are worried try her with a female of a similar age, you wont need to worry about babies then. You just have to make sure they bond, take Mr Bunny to the new doe and introduce them on neutral ground to see if they will get along. Many buns will learn to tolerate each other after fighting at first but it can take many visits over a couple of months.

Large does tend to reach puberty between 5/6 months smaller one about 4. Bucks can impregnate does from around 4 months but some mature earlier than others.

Hmmm hope no one minds me adding to the thread a little :D but i have 2 bunnies a male and female, they are about 18 months old and live seperately, i think they were once a breeding pair.... does anyone think they would learn to live happilly together if i have the male neutered? or would they possibly be to old now?

You should get your female neutered anyway - Doe's are prone to getting uterine cancer at the age of about three years and passing away prematurely. Just remember that a buck can get a doe pregnant up to four weeks after neutering, so if you only get him neutered, keep them separate for that time. They should bond all right if they're around the same age, but remember to do it SLOWLY and on neutral ground.

Thank you Bobbybunny, i had heard about the does too, suprising isn't it i thought it was only dogs that had this problem, i think they would have a much better quality of life together and keep a lot cosier in the cold weather.

I am about to attempt to pair an 18 month old male with a 9 month female and I know rescues pair up older rabbits all the time. They preferre them to be homed in pairs so they have a familiar companion.

It seems that I tempted fate... after reding this thread I decided to check Rolo's sex again and she is now definatley a he. She is now three months old and it has taken this long for me to be able to tell properly!
