Hi I was wondering if anyone could recommend some plants for me. I want some thing that is fast growing, evergreen, gives good ground cover, requires little or no maintenace and is hardy. Any suggestions welcome.

You could try cotoneaster, they use that in car parks, they're pretty fast growing, and while not truly an evergreen, they do tend to stay green (probably to do with global warming...I dunno..lol) they have flowers before the fresh leaves come thru.
Or how about a prostrate juniper?
Periwinkle grew fast and gave good ground cover in my midlands garden...but not sure if it'll withstand the winter up here (nice variagated types, with blue/purple flowers

Yes I'd thought about ivy, thanks for the suggestion of the variety, it's this that I'm not sure of. Be nice to have something that flowers too.

guess it depends whether you want height or not, but laurel ticks all the boxes on your list. You can also get varigated leaves to add a bit of interest.

Why not try some clematis? instead of growing it up, grow it across a net pegged on the floor.

What sort of area do you want to cover? Is it a border, a bed, a whole garden, or a particular corner? Is it shade or full sun? All these things have a bearing on what you will plant.

It's a bit difficult to describe the area... its a large, flat, sloped area, partly shaded by trees, I'd say the area to cover is probably 60x60ft, approximately. We may also plant some shrubs to break it up a bit and give the are some interest.

Try sweet woodruff (galium odoratum), veronica prostrata; have both in my garden. Sage isn't bad either.
