Where's that thunderstorm at the moment ?

From up here in the sticks it looks to stretch from Dronfield over to Aughton....spectacular lightning viewed from Bradfield.

Certainly heading this way from the Chesterfield area.
Bradfield is clear at the mo but its edging close.
I'm in town centre at the moment and its banging it down.

The storm was directly over our house in Handsworth last night. The windows were shaking with the thunder and everything. The lightning was fantastic.

Being on broadband I have to switch the PC off during thunder storms, I was online on a 56k modem once during a thunder storm and the modem ended up getting fried by the thunder.

Damn techies wouldn't do anything to fix it though cos it was damaged by an "act of God", WTF?! May I should've taken a leaf out of Billy Connolly's book and "sued" God

Is that ADSL broadband? Cable shouldn't be affected as its under the ground.

No it's wireless DSL which comes over a satellite dish.

We can't get standard ADSL broadband here in Stannington (damn you BT! )

Even with underground cables there is risk of a power surge.

Rich,

Think it was more likely the lightning than the thunder....and you should've told those techies you're an atheist, so their get-out clause didn't apply to you :D

We've got overhead power lines up here and the power often trips off during a thunderstorm, it seems to be an automatic response at the substation as it usually comes back on after a few seconds, but when it does that I unplug the PC and modem at the wall sockets. They need to be completely isoltaed.

The people whose house we're buying told us they got notification last week that broadband is now available. Is this a LIE?

I'd check the BT Wholesale site if I were you:

To me, broadband is an important a service as mains gas or electricity. Sad as that seems ADSL is important for certain stuff I use to work. (remote services etc.)
