View Full Version : Bluwater at Victoria Quays, opinions please.
LoopyLou 16-08-2004, 15:42 What is the food/atmosphere like in the evening mid week?
I need a venue for about 40 managers -
need a nice upper market venue serving a variety of reasonably priced food.
Local (first hand) knowledge very much appreciated
Fireondaroof 17-08-2004, 08:47 A group of about 40 of us went from my work at the weekend a few months ago and they have a back room, which is a good atmosphere that fit everyone in was still easy to talk to everybody in the group.
The food was unusual but nice, and the prices were not extortionate.
I would recommend it, but I don't know what it is like on a night in the week.
I've eaten in Bluwater a couple of times. The food has been quite nice. On a week night your party of 40 will probably be the only ones in there apart from maybe a couple of other people. No offence to Bluwater but because it's tucked away I don't think it gets very busy on week nights. I wouldn't say it's "upper market" as such, but it's a fairly pleasant place. If the weather's good then sitting outside having a couple of drinks is quite nice!
had a big leaving do there they provided a hot buffet which was good, really relaxed atmosphere too
would recommend it
Robbie Loving 17-08-2004, 16:57 good venue, and good food
Nice venue, overpriced drinks and nasty overpriced food.
Wouldnt go again, give me Jumbo's or No.1 Oriental Buffet any day :)
LoopyLou 17-08-2004, 21:06 thanks for the info !! going to have a look tomorrow for myself.
Sheffielder 21-08-2004, 13:30 Bluwater is a fabulous venue and their food is first class.
The owner is a very friendly fella who will do whatever it takes to make you feel welcome
The food is consistently excellent - I've tried a few things on the menu (would DEFINITELY recommend the chilli) and have never been let down
Recommended.
sheffbag 30-09-2004, 07:53 Regulary go to ~Bluwater for lunch. alright the wine IS expensive (some promo's wouldnt go amiss bob!) but th efood is fine and the service is excellent.
highly recommended.
coopster1974 30-09-2004, 16:55 Went to a birthday do there in the summer, my friend is vege so we had the vege buffet. Now I'll eat vegetarian food with no problems at all but .......... uuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggg ggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Just the look of it was enough to put me off my beer and the taste was awful. My advice - stay away from the vegetarian option.
Ended up in Uncle Sams for a good old burger!!!
This place got a new chef now. Review from today's paper: Blu heaven by the canal (http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/foodguide/Blu-heaven-by-the-canal.4181235.jp)
pete_jim 16-06-2008, 07:52 We went on Saturday and the food was great. The location is lovely and I'm sure it would be a good venue for a meeting. The decor could do with a rethink.
Te owner needs to take a look at what he's doing. He's been there 5 years and I think to be honest he's struggled to make it happen, it's had a few chefs and image changes.

Hi
I was doing very well until the floods last year which did not affect me directly but hit an awful lot of my corporate customers and affected christmas last year as well. BUT despite this i have put down new floors throughout, a new sound system, new tables are ordered for the inside as well a a complete lighting overhaul. A painter and decorator is pencilled in for the beginning of July to finish the whole job off. A large part of the outdoor furniture is only 6 weeks old. We did try a menu last year which if im honest missed the mark and was probably too expensive for the area but which did win awards in North Yorkshire a few years ago so was probably a positioning error rather than food quality. The lack of footfall on Victoria Quays has always stopped me from developing the business in the usual manner but has allowed me to develop a party/wedding/function business that offers something different to every other offering in the area. With increased footfall, far more residential properties on our doorstep the future looks bright.
We aim to become a bar with an exceptional local food offering, a strong wine list, a quality music policy from samba, accoustic and american songbook through the day livening it up through the evening perhaps with an indie set later on. Anyway ad over thanks for reading watch this space

Jumbo buffet? Burger from Yankies? Alternatives to the Bluwater?
Honestly! don't listen to them Bob.. only listen to your true prospective guests or paying ones, not the so called "forum Foodies" on here who think of going to Damons or Frankie & Bennies is a culinary treat!
Bluwater - fantasic venue and food... i'm sure there are a few eateries in sheffield who's menus have been inspired by yours.
Keep up the good work and carry on doing what your doing.

I was a paying guest at Bluwater, and have never been to Jumbo Buffet, Damons or Frankie & Bennies. I have been to Yankees but don't see it as an alternative to Bluwater. You missed a bit off your post which is to ignore anyones opinions that conflict with your own.
I work close to Bluwater and so I have been a few times sometimes just for a drink and also eaten there and on both accounts I can say everything was fantastic , the service , the drinks and the food all really nice ......... infact me and my other half was thinking of something to do this saturday so if the weather is nice I think I may fancy popping down its really nice sat outside there on a sunny day !
