Does anyone have any photos (or memories) of the inflatable 'air hall'?

Driving past last week and seeing the new sports buildings made me feel nostalgic for my days there <sniff>!

I went to Handsworth Grange between '88 and '92 so we used the air hall for all our PE lessons. I remember how slippy the floor was in winter when all the condensation settled- it was a death trap! I also remember all the fifth years telling us when we first started school that if we opened both the doors of the air lock at the same time then the hall would blow up and we'd end up at Ballifield shops! Gits!

I was in the fourth year when you started. I remember telling second years that the pressure would make your eyes and ears bleed!

There was a fair bit of force in there though. I recall one kid getting literally thrown out of the airlock from the blast of air when both doors were open!

Herries,(now Parkwood High) also had an identical air-dome sports-hall way back in the late seventies/ early eighties.

The kids there played the exact same tricks on the younger pupils, about the airlock!

I know this because, (way back when) I used to go out with a lad who was a pupil there. this is of course, when I was all very young and daft... ( LOL ) we used to play, on the field, with the gang we used to "knock about with".

What i remember of the Herries School airdome is the repairs, where the local idiots had slashed the air-dome (on a regular basis) , and the shabbiness of it.

I remember it was always covered in repair patches from where kids used to take delight in slashing it, god knows how the thing managed to keep inflated. Good fun running into the sides of it and bouncing back off it. :D

Not so much fun freezing cold in winter and your ears poping when going through air lock. :(

Tintoy, maybe you are right here. I reiterate my apology. However, feel free to email me privately and I will expand upon the character. Let's let the subject lie on the open forum. I haven't broken the law here, but I accept that the posting could be viewed as vulgar and in poor taste. I don't want to upset anyone, on reflection, and I don't wish the character any harm. Send me a private email.

god this is an old thread :P
anyway

no it doesnt blow up if both doors are left open, it just deflates....i know people that have done it :P

also remember the type marks on it from when it was let down during the holidays and kids riding on it on bikes and motorbikes with muddy tyres from the field....looked mad when it was reinflated and tyre marks were like 40 feet up and over the top of it
