View Full Version : New Bus Routes
noseyrosie 15-08-2004, 22:40 Well thanks a lot First. We now have one bus every half an hour. The number 1, and the re-routed number 33 that's every half hour.
We also have no evening/late buses, and we run a music night at a pub in Hillsborough that we have no way of getting to, without walking through Shalesmoor at night. Sounds like a fine idea :loopy:
Oh and we can't get to any of the real ale pubs up that way, as the 14 bus (the only route that was ever on time, might I add) has been discontinued and replaced with......?
Nothing.
One more thing - I can't get to school next term without getting there an hour early or half an hour late. The school isn't open an hour early, so not only will I have to get up at half 5, I'll also have to sit outside for half an hour.
The Loxley-Hillsborough-Sheffield end of the 13/14 still operate. The bit from Sheffield to Norton Lees is replaced by the new routes 1 and 33. Route 34 is replaced by the new Overground route 20.
If you are going through to the Hillsborough Hotel change buses in town, where there are a choice of many buses that go that way, all the 80s series as well as 13/14, or alternatively the tram.
If you are going through to the New Barrack Tavern get bus 53.
It may be a pain in the arse, I always have to change in town as no bus from Bradway goes anywhere useful other than town so I know, but at the end of the day how many people actually bought tickets to travel through from Meersbrook/Norton Lees to Hillsborough - as at the end of the day it's down to maximising revenue and minimising costs.
Actually I've just looked at the timetable and the evening service is shocking - 33 stops at 6pm and then the 1 runs once and hour with the last bus off town at 10:48pm - before the pubs shut!
Perhaps best bet might be number 8 bus down to Heeley then get 53.

See what I mean?
As for the school thing, they've sent a letter to everyone about punctuality. Looks like I'm gonna be waiting around outside at 8am....
Plain Talker 17-08-2004, 10:12 get the school to protest to the transort executive...?
they might be able to get a school service bus put on, like in stocksbridge, and for other schools (like newfield..)
you could always lay on thick the dnager to the children, if they are left to loiter about outside the school for almost an hour...
(the "you never know what perverts are hanging about" angle may be a good tack to use, along with the other point of "the only other bus gets us there late and my kid's education will suffer")
it is not fair to the kids that they are put in danger by having to get there excessively early.
it might be worth a try...?
How come you need to get the bus both to the pub and to school?
Which school do you go to by the way?
valleygirl 17-08-2004, 17:44 and i have the same problem - the 39 used to be great, but now I won't be able to get home on late nights without waiting around for the 1 or getting a taxi. And my friends who got the 33/34 to Parson Cross for work are totally screwed as well. How long is the journey on the 1 do you think? It seems to go EVERYWHERE.
Didn't we petition about this on the 14?

Council's discussion about 33 bus - very interesting.

The 33/34 is replaced by new route 20, which runs from Hemsworth to Hillsborough. From Hemsworth it runs via Hemsworth Road, Warminster Road, Derbyshire Lane, Chesterfield Road and London Road into town, then via Pitsmoor and Parson Cross to Hillsborough. Those travelling from Scarsdale Road can get the number 2 into the city centre and change there.
The 14 is replaced by the 1/33, which basically go the same way from town to Hollythorpe Rise that the 14 did, more or less. The 1 then continues down Scarsdale Road onto Woodseats and goes to Chancet Wood, Jordanthorpe, Norton, Gleadless, Manor Top, Meadowhall, Hillsborough, on basically the old route 59.
Out of all these, the 20 is the main route, it runs every 10 minutes in the daytime and every 30 minutes evening and Sundays. Last bus from town to Hemsworth is 23:32.
The 34 has not been replaced by the no 20 ..it been replaced by the no 7 !!
The no 20 doesnt go to shirecliffe it goes to the northern general then turns off to the blood bank at longley and then towards hillsbro' via southey green rd.
My trouble is I cant catch a bus to wadsley bridge any more where my 2nd job is !!
Anybody know if of any other routes, i live at the top of shirecliffe hill but can walk to tesco on herries rd where i used to catch the 97 but theyve messed that up 2!!!! BOOOO
silverknight 19-08-2004, 08:19 Looking at the new First Sheffield Bus Map Service 1/2 & 33 run from Tesco Herries Road area to Hillsborough. Service 1/2 being the most direct, the 33 runs via Southey Green Shops. I belief a through fare is available on the 97/87 as most of the Ecclesfield 97 journeys then change to 87 but agree its a long way round.
Service 1/2/33 serve the Law Bros Gargage bit of Wadsley bridge. If you work in the White Horse/Kilner Way area the service is 97/87. The only other option is change at Southey shops onto the service 20.
Other option is the SCT service P1/P2 the local hourly minibus linking NGH to Norwood/Southey/Parson Cross/Foxhill/Wadsley Bridge
snowboarder 19-08-2004, 11:20 Bus timetables give me nervous breakdowns. Get a car.....never look back
Thanks for the feedback
...ive been catching the bus to law bros roundabout and walkin the rest but wondered if there was a better way, i just miss the 97 hillsbro' which was easier ....i still cant understand why they took it off when it was the busiest of the 2 routes but they insist on plying more services to parson cross!!??
