how do you justify the cost of this promotion?because a proper sunday lunch should crack the plate and leave you full till supper

maybe the word 'justification' was wrong but as a customer i have fallen for promotions such as this before and they aint been exactly what was promised in an ad,more like a light snack.so if i'm spending money in your establishment i'll want a belly full.that means a nice amount of meat,3 or 4 veggies including a large pile of mash 3 or 4 yorkshire puds, roast tatties and nice thick gravy.i'm not having a go i just want to know exactly what i'm gonna get.

Sarah1982

I dont know any sunday dinner you buy in a restaurant that gives you 4 yorkshire puddings and is falling offyour plate to be fair, so i doubt a free one will!

shaw
24-10-2006, 12:08 AM
yes but a sunday lunch is traditionaly the largest meal of the week and when i think of sunday lunch that's what i envisage and that's what i get. there are places where you get exactly that which is why they generally cost more than the price of a drink.

hi all

the prices for drinks will not be overpriced or subsidised, they will be exactly the same prices as they normally are and you are free to confirm this with any of our regulars!!

The portion size as i said will be substantial enough as are all our meals, for those with bigger appetites a starter will be available at a cost.

I must urge people to book if they intend to come as if i get no bookings i am not going to prepare 100 meals to put in the bin!!

the booking numbers again are 01142 767711 or 07968529970

cheers

fridgeman
25-10-2006, 02:20 PM
at last some one with sense, thanks neeeeeeeeeek.
so £2.50 for a pint of cider not bad slightly overpriced though, i pay £1.75 in my local, but they don't do food, so i would not mind paying the few coppers extra for a free hot meal,.
hope it takes off for them.

Have The Priory always done food?

Did/do they do food during the day?

I walked in with the missus a while back to find no obvious eating area, no menus, and a barman who was more interested in the paper!

I went with my boyfriend to claim our free lunch on Sunday. We like the place anyway.............. so a couple of drinks on a Sunday afternoon with a free lunch thrown in was fine by us!! Food was nice - you could tell the veg was fresh and the mash was actually made from potatoes!!!!! I know that these are standard things that should be expected anywhere - but considering the meal was free i'd probably still have been happy if they used smash. The meat, pork, was nicely cooked and there was proper gravy too!!

As for the price of drinks - seemed average to me.

It seems that the place will be refurbished soon and it will have the new name of the Sanctuary. Can't imagine how they are going to refurb it - wasn't too long ago that it was done out. Maybe a bit of paint and replacement of some of the seat covers is needed now though!!

erm.. no,

so, unfortunately, don't know,
and erm... don't know, basically..

*shrugs, irritatedly*Presumably they haven't caught on that you need disabled access - I'm only guessing from what's been said. Perhaps it needs spelling out. :suspect:

It sounds like a great offer, I hope to get down one Sunday, how long is it going to go on for?

sophiec1979
31-10-2006, 10:40 AM
well, me and a couple of mates went on sunday and we were mightily impressed.

to say that the food was free, i thought it was spot on. im not a great fan of roast pork so i gave half mine away, and my mates isnt a great fan of mash, so by the time we'd swopped the bits we werent so keen on on , everyone was a winner! the mash was lovely and we were impressed with the portions doled out, especially when you remember it was FREE.

i like the priory anyway, partly because its quite a quiet bar, but i can see the potential in the place to become a really good meeting place for a night out. i really hope that this promotion will help to raise the profile of this nice bar and get it on the map a bit more.

Big thank you to ginga-clarky (and andy, i think it was) for looking after us and we'll be phoning later in the week to book our table for this weekend.

Not a Sunday lunch comment, but just a quick aside - I was in there last night between about 6 and 8 and it was very pleasant - except the music was a bit ont' loud side! :)

Had there been more folks in, I could have understood it, but I got the feel that the folks in were there to chat...

But - it's rapidly becoming my 'office' in that part of town!

samstar999
31-10-2006, 10:53 AM
All sounds very promising! Was there a choice of roasts and what was the veggie option? What time do they serve? I love nothing better than a coupe of glasses of vino, Sunday lunch and the papers!
BUT, the question which has not been answered relates to disabled access???

Sarah1982
31-10-2006, 11:20 AM
Is it on this Sunday again?

ginga_clarky
31-10-2006, 01:15 PM
hi all,

apologies for not answering questions earlier but im here now to answer questions etc
Yes the free sunday lunches will continue every sunday until further notice so call again to book or just come down but i advise booking!!

Disabled access is restricted as we are a grade 2 listed building we are not allowed to alter the front of the building hence no ramp, there is a lower level with disabled toilets on, we do table service also and will happily help anyone up the 2 small stairs at the entrance if they need it

We have only taken over the bar in the last 4 weeks so any problems anyone encountered here with the previous owners will NOT continue, i feel confident to say that we have aleady made vast improvements which will only be strengthened by our refurb in a few weeks. If you get down and chat to us we will happily give you an invite to the launch night!!

We do fresh food every day from 11.30am to 8pm, a few other offers that may be of interest to you guys is a beer and burger for £5(and its a great quality burger!!!), also buy 2 main meals and get a free bottle of wine, so please all come down to try those offers too
We also have an open mic night on a thursday where fosters and corona are £2 each and a free drink to anyone who comes to perform!! you will even see myself playing the guitar and a little drunk!!!:hihi:

I hope to see more of you down this sunday and please call to book a table to ensure you get a free lunch!!

this week the roast is BEEF!!!

any further questions please feel free to ask!!

cheers

Andy

Well as Sophie said - the free Sunday lunch is well nice! I went with my mate on Sunday and we both thought it was a really good nosh - especially with the more than reasonable price tag :hihi:
Drinks weren't badly priced either, and the forthcoming new menu Andy showed us looked really good to boot. Anyone that's not been for a while ought to give the new guys a try - it's a winner in my book!

my question is, whether or not it is a listed building, the DDA applies, what reasonable adjustments do you have in place, to allow myself and other mobility impaired patrons access to your premises? (portable ramps etc?)

and if they are not already in place, when will they be put in place, in order that we can get into the premises, and use the "Lower level, with disabled toilets in"

i believe that there won't be anyone behind the bar, at that point, as, if i interpret andy's comments correctly, the refurb should theoretically be under way, for a week or two...
