Just a thought and I appreciate they are chains, but would places like...

1) Tiger Tiger
2) Pret a Manger
3) Wagamamas

work in Sheffield...

Unfortunately they're not franchises otherwise I'd have opened one by now!

Your thoughts please.

I would say that they could, it's a big enough city and the centre seems busier every year. Plus there's loads of new development in and around the city centre, plenty of room for more eateries I'd have thought.

I love Pret a Manger personally, I'd be there every day!

Didn't there used to be a Pret A Manger in Meadowhall?

Not sure... But I don't think that Meadowhell would be the right place for it.. not for a first one in Shef like.

I reckon somewhere like near the Peace Gardens would be ideal ..

Bring on the crayfish and rocket sarnies!

It's a high tech noodle place.

I know there's loads of places on London Rd etc... but it is really good

Google it... think they have a website

A Tiger Tiger definitely would, especially on West Street.

what is wagamama?

There's a brilliant wagamama in Nottingham, opposite the Theatre Royal/Concert Hall. You can eat your noodles and people watch the theatre goers at the same time.

I don't know if they'd work in Sheffield, but they certainly work in Leeds - Tiger Tiger is on Albion Street and opens until 3am, Wagamama on Park Lane, and there are 3 Pret a Mangers.

Belgo is awesome. Do they have any in the North?

Mussels and frites, washed down with a Delirium Beer... mmm

Pret a Manger? Manky Prat more like! Don't be silly! We have a fine selection of Greggs!

Oh my mouth is watering. Wagas is fab and Pret has wonderful sarnies and great coffee. Sometimes I really miss bits of London. If given a choice of one I think I would have to opt for Pret.

But Leeds just follows Manchester. Sheffield needs to different.

Local businesses who are independent and individual.

Why do we want the same chains as everywhere else?

Starbucks anyone?

Starbucks is okay. It's ethical. Let's keep Starbucks. :D

Wagamama is a cross between East One and Wasabisabi. So... I would opt for something like Belgo which we don't have. (Apparently, there are only 2 in the whole of UK.) Which is still quite relatively reasonable even for Sheffield's pricing. Their beers would make Devonshire Cat make a run for their money though. :hihi:

Not that I know of, but you can bet they'll eventually expand to the likes of Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham and Leeds.

This coming from someone living in Barnsley.

Oh, the irony!:hihi:

Have I ever pretended Barnsley is a model of progress or a paragon of beauty, with its boarded up shops and cinema? Still, if they put Barrnsley Market where the castle Market is now, it would be an improvement (and yes, I believe Barnsley Market needs the dynamite treatment).
