View Full Version : What's with all these fruity teas then?
jenniflower 23-10-2006, 09:36 Is it just me?
Sheffield seems to be hit with a sudden 'fruity teas' epidemic.
How many times have I been offered this at people's houses in the last few months? "Oh, we don't have any proper tea, do you want some green/lemon/dandelion tea instead?"
And now i am now part of this revolution becuase I actually like them.
Is anyone else the same?
What's going on?
I've got a cupboard full, but they aren't the first thing that finds it's way into a cup :P
then again, enough people have something to say if they find out they're getting English Breakfast instead of the dust brushed off the floor :suspect:
neeeeeeeeeek 23-10-2006, 09:44 I drink the top one all the time.

Also drink Dr Stuarts Detox tea and Aruvardic detox tea. Pepeprmint tea is OK but most fruit ones are a bit crap. Twinnings tea is all rubbish but seems to be all you get in most places.
nah fruity teas, you want a good strong cup of 'proper' tea, PG tips all the way, no milk, two sugars please!
and not those '1 cup bags' they make p*** poor tea, a normal bag for one mug full!
If you want something truly horrific (and an aquired taste, which I haven't managed to aquire yet) try Mate tea. It takes a long time to make and has a certain ritual of making and drinking it. Very beneficial even if it does taste like contents of an ashtray with hot water mixed in.

Has anyone tried the coffe alternative you see in Holland and Barrat. I believe the you are what you eat woman recomends it to her clients who say they can't live without coffee.
Also drink Dr Stuarts Detox tea and Aruvardic detox tea.
The Dr Stuarts teas are very good, but it says on the packet you can't have more than 4 cups a day of some of them, they have quite powerfull herbs in some of them. I find with fruit teas they smell realy nice but don't have any taste.
I'm not sure which one you mean but I have Barley cup. It's ok but I guess if you are a coffee connoisseur it isn't going to be acceptable. It's a little like Mellow birds coffee.
jenniflower 23-10-2006, 10:10 I like the orange, ginger and honey ones. Yum yum.
neeeeeeeeeek 23-10-2006, 10:11 Nettle tea is also pretty awful. it tastes far too green. Very high in Iron theough for people who need it.

If you dunk the bag in and out they don't - you have to let them brew for longer ;)
neeeeeeeeeek 23-10-2006, 10:15 Got to agree with Nick2, they are just a smell and a colour with very little taste. Leave the bag in and they get worse!

I do, for about 5 minutes sometimes, but they still don't taste much like fruit, unlike ginger tea or mint which do taste like ginger or mint.
actually, I find they don't taste like fruit flavoured sweets, which is what we're conditioned to think we're getting from a packet ;)
They're usually a pretty good representation of what they actually are made of
Ginseng tea is vile too, it tastes like mud, so it must be good for you :)
I think some of them are an acquired taste :) Blackcurrant seems to have the most flavour. I got soome Rooibos the other day but haven't tried it yet.
On a related note, does anyone here drink "normal" tea without milk? People always think I'm odd... Or if someone else makes it, they ask if I want sugar or not but never if I want milk!!!
littleboo 23-10-2006, 10:51 they never seem to live up to my expectations, they all look so wonderful in the shop, but when I make them I am always disappointed!!!

I'll drink most teas without milk, even PG tips, it does actually taste better without milk. Earl Grey is the best though.
reditiger 23-10-2006, 11:04 lemon and ginger and green tea with leomon is about as much as I can stand
I need my caffine!

Aha!!!!! A kindred spirit!!!!!
purdyamos 23-10-2006, 11:13 Is there a Jenniflower tea? ;)
It sounds like it should have a delicate and subtly aromatic flavour!
jenniflower 23-10-2006, 11:27 Please feel free to use jenniflower for any commercial ventures you choose!
jenniflower 23-10-2006, 12:24 Well I think I can conclude, I'm not the only ponce about.

and work as a laxative
(only joking :) )
EdnaKrabappe 23-10-2006, 12:30  Lemon and ginger from Whittards
I like letting them go cold or adding ice.
Still can't stomach green tea though. :gag:
jenniflower 23-10-2006, 12:36 oh edna, what a fantastic idea!

I'm going to let this go because you're practically a neighbour.
:hihi:
babyboom 23-10-2006, 21:46 blackberry and nettle tea is delicious!
Peppermint tea is lovely. Normal tea is pretty disgusting, it's only drinkable because of the milk and sugar you have to put in. I'm more of a coffee guy though.
fox20thc 24-10-2006, 09:13 I did some market testing for twinings for their fruit teas. Different blends of the same alleged flavour.
The conclusion I came to was that they all tasted of nothing :|
mrplodge 24-10-2006, 09:49 Slightly off track here but when I have just wanted a cup of tea in Germany I always end up with fifty choices I dont understand. I was not getting anywhere in a cafe once and ended up with mint tea yuk.

I find most of them taste "pink" :)
Deepcarowl 24-10-2006, 13:25 Got to be Yorkshire tea all the way! One sugar and a tiny splash of milk!:hihi:
jojostyle 29-10-2006, 15:26 green tea is fab flushes out toxins from the 4 cups coffee i have to have to get me going in the morning

My strawberry fruit tea looked very pink, in an unpleasant opaque way, when a friend made it for me and added milk :gag:

Urgh urgh urgh!!!!
Peppermint tea seems to be the most refreshing :D
I'm a fruit tea convert. I didn't like it at first, but now it's grown on me. It's less sugary and tartic than just normal tea. I still have normal tea once a while.
My favourite one is Strawberry White Tea from Clippers. Found this recently. I like Camomile and mint tea too. Bought some loose camomile and mint leaves from a shop in Belgium, and it does what it says. Sends you to sleep ! :)
Peppermint tea is good when I have bunged up nose. Prob drink more now that it's sooo cold.
Bob_Londoner 05-11-2006, 13:44 I have tried Earl Grey, Lemon and Jasmine tea and they all taste like cat's youknowwhat - give me a mug of Tetley's with milk everytime!
Charmouthmam 06-11-2006, 11:20 My husband (being from New York) doesn't really do tea of any variety. We had a visitor one day who asked for a herbal tea. I showed him where the herbal teas are in the cupboard and left him to make it. Bless him! He put milk in it. Yeuch!
