Enterprise (http://www.enterprise.com/) do very good Friday-Monday specials on their cars, and I think also on their vans. Think it's 50% off weekday rates, but with a limited mileage... to get around that just rent it for an additional weekday and you automatically get unlimited mileage. They also pick you up and drop you off for free.

I'd second that - we hired loads of vehicles (one at a time!) from enterprise before we bought our own car. They are really good, and have a damage waiver so if anyone bumps you or it gets scraped in a car park you don't pay a thing (I think an extra tenner a day - worth every penny when we took a black ford focus to London and it was keyed). They also do pick up at one place, drop off at another, which is good if you're going to Cornwall!

Apple Van Hire rings a bell as a decent one .. I know I rang some not long back and I know they are in S17 but I think they were very very reasonable.

enterprise are fantastic, we used them for two moves over a couple of days and they guy there gave us a discount - wrote off some of the diesel (put half a tank on his form when there was nearly a full tank) and gave us a pretty decent new van (10k miles on the clock, we managed to add another 1k to that :))
