thanks
getphysical 21-10-2006, 16:04 Wellington Street is a good gym. There is Woodseats ABC At the Double Six Club on Scarsdale Road that's maybe nearer to home.

I go there! Well used too. I've moved out of the city now, havent been a regular for a couple of months now. Went last week tho and its still the same.
Its ace. Everyone is dead friendly, you'll love it. Everyone will make you feel dead at home.
All standards, all ages, and the guy who runs it, Tom is really cool. Its very relaxed and I love it. Its the main reason I want to move back to Sheff.
Go and try it out and see for yourself

MickeyBarnes 15-12-2006, 00:21 Ok. Get onto West St. Stand with your back to La Mancha Restaurant. Walk across the road, (you are now off west st. and coming on to division st. Go, past the frog and parrot and walk on past the devonshire chippy (your still going forward) and it will be on your left after a small car park. The building has white boards out side it which say "boxing" or something to that effect.
The owner is Tom Bradley. Can't seem to find the phone number right now tho pal, soz!.
i believe it is open from about 1pm - 7.30 at night.

I personally like the one next door to Tom bradleys gym which is run by Brett and Steve Stocks.
There are a good mix of ethnicities there and a good number of asian boxers too. Great atmosphere and the coaches spend time on you even if youre a beginner.
I like that gym as i get on with and have a good banter with Brett, Steve and Mark (the coaches). Great bunch of guys!

St Vincents is near the "west bar cop shop" and the ones near devonshire street are, Tough Guise and Wellington Street Boxing gym.
I personally recommend Wellington Street Boxing gym.

skoolsout 17-12-2006, 19:33 The Amateur Boxing Association affiliated clubs in the Sheffield City Council area are:
Sheffield Boxing Centre ABC
Steel City ABC
Parson Cross ABC
Manor ABC
Woodseats ABC
Sheffield Lane Top ABC
Handsworth ABC
Unity ABC
St Vincents ABC
and the newly affiliated Don Valley ABC
All these gyms allow people to come to try out and just train if they want. If you want to compete in the future you'll need to box out of one of these ABA-insured gyms. Tom Bradley's gym - Tough Guise - is not affiliated, but I believe that he forwards boxers to Steel City etc if they want to compete.
ALL contact details for these clubs can be found by going to www.amateurboxinginsheffield.blogspot.com and clicking on the links on the right of the page.
kingkhan91 17-12-2006, 23:07 hey which one is the gym where prince naseem went to?
also what do you meen you will have to box out the ABA instructor? and how quick can you get into your first fight?
skoolsout 18-12-2006, 19:34 Prince Naseem trained at Brendan Ingle's gym in Wincobank, which is also the home of Unity ABC, but after falling out with Brendan I think he trained for some fights at Sheffield Boxing Centre (Glyn Rhodes' gym).
No racism at any of these gyms mate. If you've got the bottle to get in there and do your best you'll be accepted.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "also what do you meen you will have to box out the ABA instructor?"
As for your first bout - when you're ready. Some people get on quicker than others. Some never become good enough. Your coach won't let you go for your medical to get your ME3 card (effectively your licence to box) until you are good enough to represent his or her club safely (I say her because one of the best coaches, at Unity ABC, is female). How old are you?
Thanks alot for all the replies. Waiting until the new year.. mate who was going to do it with me broke his arm in Kung Fu so its been put on hold but think I'll go to the place off Divison Street seemed good.
Thanks Mickey for the info.

Hi Work 1 ,
There is a gym in the city centre, WELLINGTON STREET BOXING GYM , near the devonshire cat pub.

Tell him Farhad sent you
Hi,
I'm training some MMA skills and need to greatly improve my hand skills. I'm looking for a gym where I can train close quarters boxing as opposed to point scoring amatuer style.
Am I right in thinking that there is a difference between boxing and amatuer boxing?
kbfighter 24-11-2007, 14:27 Hi you can come down to 393 club and join the city boxing club, PM me for more details if you like.
Boxing training is pretty much the same where ever you go, all clubs in sheffield are excellent but their are not many that cater just for adults or have adult only classes.
GSJoinery 24-11-2007, 15:03 hi

Does anyone know if Brendan Ingles still runs the St Thomas' club?
I'm a script writing student, working on my final project. The story i've come up with involved boxing and i'm wanting to try and get in touch with Brendan to see if i can talk to him about his life after he moved from Dublin.
I've got a phone number for the gym and the name is Brendan's but it might be a little out of date now.
I know i could probably just phone tomorrow and find out but it might save me having to explain everything over the phone to someone who doesn't really care :)
thanks

Hi, I see that your wanting to start boxing. well theirs plenty of clubs in sheffield, but were you want to go will depend on what you want to do. theirs a few clubs that throw you right in at the deep end and no doubt they'll have you sparring too soon then expect you to get carded(ABA registered) and fight for the club. Which is great if thats what you want. But that wont be for you if like most who walk into a gym for the first time your lacking a little confidence when it comes to fighting.
I do a little coaching down at brendens gym at winkerbank. brendens style of training suits the beginner down to the ground, theres no presure, every thing would be at your pace untill you find your feet and on top of all that it'll be world class coaching that your receiving.
Your more than welcome to drop some time to see how things flow.
Good luck with what ever you decide.

What are the session times? cost? who to contact? im 23, and looking to get into boxing, been down to a local (to me) club, but i wasnt getting the proper training and just chucked in at the deep end like you said! I would like to box, id just like to learn the trade a bit first!
Are their any boxing clubs in the S8 area? woodseats/meersbrook sort of area? any help would be much appreciated as i am struggling to find one close to home and i really wanna start boxing! :help:
thanks,
jake
