View Full Version : Stop everything - go surfing.
Waxen_Pith 20-10-2006, 19:52 Was thinking about starting a thread for surfers in Shef, now that the autumn/winter season is starting, and hopefully there'll be some good swell on the east coast after a pretty dismal few months!
I'm off to Cayton tommorrow, not great conditions, but better than walking mindlessly around meadowhall...
But how about keeping this thread alive, getting in touch over the next few months, sharing rides, etc when east coast is working?
Thoughts welcome!
OneSpeed 23-10-2006, 09:41 Really wanna learn! Been wanting to for ages, but nobody will teach me/take me along... also don't have a board! but apart from that, i'm game! :)
jenniflower 23-10-2006, 12:20 I learnt this summer - was excellent, but won't it be a bit cold now?
Best to turn your thoughts to winter and snow and snowboarding.
Seriously now...
northswell 26-10-2006, 11:22 Hi I run the Surf Shop on Hickmott Rd, just off Ecclesall Rd. I went up with a couple of other Sheffield surfers Monday (23rd). North Bay Scarbs was over head lined up and offshore with only a handfull out, roll on the rest of the winter. Looks like the east coast is going to be firing again this weekend but i'm stuck in the shop unfortunately. Check out our forum at northswell.co.uk out, i,m also trying to get Sheffield surfers together, not many registered users yet but people are using it.
See you out back.
Jonny Uttah 26-10-2006, 20:16 Hey managed Tues up at Sandsend, not great, but chest high and some short in and outs made it worth the trip. Up there this weekend but further north looking good for more big clean surf. By the way been in the shop (North Swell) stoked there is at last a real surf store in Sheff. Oh,Jenni, Autumn, Winter, and Spring bring the best surf so you wrap up warm and make the best of what you get, surely you don't snowboard in shorts and tees ya just dress according to the conditions. Me normally an ex president! Or was that Brodie, I forget.
northswell 02-11-2006, 10:42 Today really is the day to stop everything and go surfing. After yesterdays storm surf there's head high clean waves today, and with luck a new swell may even kick in on the tail of this one to produce decent waves for the weekend.
See you outback

SafetyPin 04-02-2007, 20:23 If you were someone living in Sheffield who wanted to learn to surf but had never done so before, what's the best course of action?
Just curious. Something I've always sort-of-fancied doing.
Jonny Uttah 04-02-2007, 23:37 Well you could pop in the shop for a chat, but there are a few places on the East Coast you can take lessons, N Wales, S Wales, and hundreds in the SWest, Depends what your after?

i had a go at surfing last year up at Saltburn and it was the most amazing feeling standing up on the board for the first time. i then went a couple of times down to Gower south wales and had an ace time. I wasn't sure if there was a scene in Sheffild, so i think this link is great.

northswell 21-03-2007, 15:10 Was up at Scarborough yesterday. Some decent size to it but a bit nippy, its no fun putting your wetsuit on in the snow, especially when wet as its your second surf of the day, ouch.
