Soham cop Brian Stevens has been found guilty of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
He was sentenced to eight months in prison at the Old Bailey today.
Crown Prosecution Service case worker Louise Austin was given a six month sentence, suspended for two years, for the same offence.
Stevens, who was appointed to liaise with the family of one of the girls murdered by Ian Huntley, was cleared last year of child porn charges when the case against him collapsed.
Colleagues of Stevens in the Cambridgeshire force said they felt "betrayed" by the detective.
They were 2disgusted" that he used his dealings with the family of murder victim Jessica Chapman to try to convince the jury that he was an honourable detective.
Stevens, 43, gave police a false alibi when he was being investigated over allegations that he downloaded child porn from the internet on to his laptop.
Louise Austin, 32, - with whom Stevens denies having a sexual relationship - provided him with an alibi. She was also found guilty of conspiring to pervert the course of justice. What are your opinions!
