View Full Version : Our gorgeous new Puppy
Hi everyone.
We have just become 'proud parents' of a beautiful golden labrador! We are so besotted with her, I just had to share my news, as well as the fact that I shall now be frequenting the Sheffield Pet Owners forum!! I have seen a thread for piccies, so as soon as I can I will put some on.
Bye for now
Jayne
Er, don't think you get away with starting a thread and not giving us pics!!!!
Tease! ;)
if you put them here, we can move them afterwards :)

Thanks Strix,
I have one of those DVD cameras, and unfortunatley at the moment I am using a non rw dvd. As soon as I fill the dvd, (which won't be long I'm sure) I promise I will post a pic!

May I take this opportunity to offer the socialisation services of a certain beagle, who is about the right size for meeting and playing with a labrador pup of 'allowed to be out now' age :D
She's faaarrrrr too cute ;)
Looks like you've got a handfull there though :suspect:
She has eyes like Brude's and Takara's
That is one seriously cute pup

Can't wait to take her out Strix, she had her first jab on friday, and goes back on the 3rd of Nov for the second lot. She is really well behaved, and soooo friendly. I just know i'm gonna be a sucker for those eyes........
Jayne
Be careful Jayne ;)
What you have there is a dog. Labs get big very quickly, and if you haven't decided on whether you really want dog hair and slobber all over the sofa, or enough room to sleep in the bed, I'd start thinking now :hihi:
Labs also have a smell all of their own - once they no longer qualify as pups, so don't let those big brown eyes make the rules, coz changing them at a later date will make them big sad eyes :(
I suspect she's going to be a very intelligent dog... a little less easy to train than your average lab, as she's likely to think for herself - and if she doesn't get enough input and fun learning from you, she could begin destroying things for entertainment - as they do  *raises an eyebrow at Brude*
We're looking forward to lots of fantastic pics of her Jayne :)

I want one!
awww look at those eyes!
'butter wouldn't melt mawahahahaha!'
She won't stay well behaved don't worry ;) and if she does I want her to have a word with Takara perlease!
I would also like to offer socialisation  a) so I can meet her! and b) as Takara just loves puppies!!
Just wait til she develops the habit all the labs I've met have... rolling in beautifully aromatic fox poop!!
She's beautiful - you're going to have lots of fun with her, I can tell!

My collie cross does that :gag:
Hi,
Thankyou for the tips and advice. She has one or two toys at the moment, which I distract her with when she finds something that she really didn't ought to chew, and luckily I can take her to work with me, so she won't be left alone. I can't wait to introduce her to other people, dogs etc, and my daughter can't wait to take her for a walk on her lead. Regarding the fox pooh, is that what it is?? We had a dog years ago who rolled in something under a hedge, and it absolutely reeked. I thought it was a dead/rotting hedgehog or something! Me thinks now it could have been fox pooh. Will post some more pics at regular intervals, and keep you informed of her training progress. Its good to know that I can be sure of some good friendly advice from you all. Thankyou.
Jayne
aww can't wait to hear more! have you got her booked into a puppy class? I'd really recommend either a puppy class or obedience class as I didn't do this with Takara straight away (concentrated on her ringcraft training) and I wish I had!
You think a class would have made Takara less of a handful Lotti? :hihi:
:D
PinkxTinks 22-10-2006, 23:33 I need that doggy, give it to me, omg, what a gorgeous doggy WOW
*gets broody [for a dog]* haha
She's lovely- and it's going to be so hard telling her off with that little face!

Hi Lotti,
It is something that I have thought about, I was going to ask the vet if he could recommend one, but totally forgot. If anyone can reccomend anything it would be great.
Thanks Jayne
You get to take her to work with you?
How are you or anybody else going to get any work done whilst she's there? :hihi: She's going to be the centre of attention!

Where do you work?! I wanna work there too! She can come and play with me when you're busy! She's soo cute! xx
lol it's just as well Takara wasn't allowed to go to work with us as a pup! she would've peed everywhere, ripped up all the paperwork, climbed the walls, bitten people...
She was a horrible puppy
In my opinion - puppy classes are a good idea for socialisation but a proper training class with adult dogs would also be a good idea as it will be easier for the pupster to concentrate if they're not all little puppies who all want to play!

LOL, Its my own shop, so I am lucky. Like I said earlier she is quite good at the moment, so hopefully she will learn to adjust to home/work

And eating it along with horse manure. :gag:
Ours as a habit of diving in any water he can find even if its just a muddy puddle, get ready for lots of baths, its bad enough with our chocolate lab but a golden lab !
:D

Better not let her see my "Sick to death of my dog" thread!
Better not let her see my "Sick to death of my dog" thread!I have to say I hadn't forgotten about that one when I posted ;)
One of the fabric shops that I visit has a resident pair of very chilled and sweet black standard poodles that meander about the place and stick their heads in your hand while you're mooching about the place. I think they add to the friendly air of the place.
And some snotty shop assistants tell you it's against the law to have dogs on the premises
'Only if you sell food luv' ;)
Can you tell us where your shop is and what you sell Jayne? Your custom is going to go through the roof soon :D

Yep I'll second that!
i have a black labrador hes just 1 year old. he loves attention and still bites things, so be careful what to leave hanging around. my vet told me to buy him a cage to put him in when i go out, at first he didnt like it but now he loves it. you will have lots of laughs with her, i do all the time with max.. he is a good house dog, got quite a vicious bark now, and barks if he hears any noises.

Yes, of course. I own a shop called Daisychain on South Road Walkley. It is a greeting card shop, so no food. (Apart from my dinner!)

Thanks for the advice Suzan. I have also considered a puppy crate, and I'm still toying with the idea. At the moment she is quite content in her bed, but after reading through the posts, I think she is lulling me into a false sense of security!

OMG, looks like I better enjoy the 'honeymoon period'. Has he got any better scoop? Please tell me yes!!
Jayne
hes getting better day by day, maybe thats cos he now has to wear a muzzle for biting things, as i have took the cage out now cos hes getting so big. if he finds paper he loves making confetti out of it, hes a lively character. keep in touch and keep me informed how yours is geting on.

Erm..... A bit! In fact quite a bit. But outstanding issues still are, pulling on the lead and treating the cat like a squeaky toy.
The pulling is getting better with some intensive training, but I think it will be some time (years) before he stops pulling me when he see's discarded food or cats for example.
The squeeky toy cat thing is very upsetting. He only wants to play, and doesn't realise that he's hurting the cat, so we just have to be very careful not to leave them alone together.
Overall, he's a wonderful dog, a real member of the family and he's brought us lots of love and laughter.
I suppose you can put it down to experience! We did some extensive research into the Labrador breed, good with children, behaviour, training etc, and decided that it was the dog for us. I suppose as with every breed, no two are the same, and like you have said, no matter what happens, they are part of the family, and are loved family pets. Once you've committed yourself, its through thick and thin! ( even the early morning wee wees, I wasn't up this early with the kids!! lol ).
Jayne
If you start with a crate, you can ditch it at a later date a little more easily than trying it the other way round ;)
If you crate train from an early age, you can have a canvas one in the shop you can easily send her to if you have any irrational customers with an aversion to dogs :loopy:
(I know, I know, don't tell me off about reasons people are scared of dogs ;) )
If you want to see how you get on with a cage, I can probably lend you Brude's travel cage for half a week
Thanks Strix,
I think I leave her till the weekend, see how she is. I have been watching them on ebay for the last couple of days, and they seem quite reasonable. While we are on the subject of crates, I've just read your thread titled appetite for destruction. It seems that even in a crate the little blighters manage to cause mayhem! LOL.
Jayne
Only in the hands of stupid people
If I hadn't taken the tumble drier lid off and left the cushions ontop of his cage instead of finding somewhere safe for them, it wouldn't have happened :shakes:
