View Full Version : New Rock/Metal night proposal meet
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 11:47 Right well......
Who is interested? and who is willing to put the work in?
If you are you MUST show up for the meets otherwise it just won't work. We need to get this off the ground so we need people to turn up.
So leave a reply here if you are willing to turn up to the meets and put the time and effort into getting this off the ground.
Once i know people are interested and willing to put the time and effort in another meet up can be arranged.
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 12:28 Does no-one want this to happen or be a part of it?
Depends on the venue.
Attendance of the regular SF forum meets at the Classic Rock Bar on Eccy Road has fallen sharply in recent months, cos a lot of people don't like the venue for whatever reason.
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 13:12 Perhaps you could try the forum meets in a pub in the city centre. Perhaps more people would go then.
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 13:14 perhaps nelson, sportsman or maybe even devonshire cat. Maybe people would come there.
Might not be a bad idea that.
Dev Cat or Trippets in Town... Or any of the pubs in the Devonshire quarter really.
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 13:33 Do a tester i.e start a thread and see if people will come. You will know then.
mimicraze 13-08-2004, 13:35 ive tried that, same thing happens. no matter where we have the venue thats wahts gonna happen, only a handful of people will turn up. they dont write it in their diaries, its not a priority to them and they think on the day "oh shall i go to the meet, nothing better to do". good luck with arranging a meet!
Back on topic, i dont have much time but id love to help with this rock night, I have no money to contribute either so not much use really.
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 13:39 Well you could try having the meet on a friday or Saturday night and see what happens then.
Ok, Well at the moment we are meeting to discuss ideas and then see where that takes us. So come along.
Trying to find a suitable venue as well. Any ideas?
mimicraze 13-08-2004, 13:41 hehe i would ararnge it for a friday or sat night but most people wouldnt want to, as they have other plans usually, like goin gout with mates or whatever. i will come along as long as im free, which is very rare :(
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 13:46 Ok then, ask them which day would they perfare and would they come and see what happens then. Depends i suppose how many people you are looking to turn up.
Rubysoho 13-08-2004, 13:47 Seeing as its a meet about a new rock night, why not try and hold the meet in the Dove and Rainbow - cool pub, cool place to throw some ideas around - might even be able to get some input from the regulars there!!
Just a thought!
mimicraze 13-08-2004, 13:48 yeh, i dont like the dev cat at all, would much rather go to dove n rainbow or somewhere not neccesarily "alternative", all the places are pretty sh it to be honest.
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 13:52 Trouble is dove and rainbow has gone down hill alot, the place is in bad need of a re-fit.
mimicraze 13-08-2004, 13:54 who cares abouyt needing a refit, we just wanna sit there and talk and have a laugh. not really a big deal.
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 13:56 I suppose. However depends who would come to the meet if we actually did hold it in the Dove and Rainbow.
prepared to meet anywhere as long I can park the car (don't drink on school\work nights... Honest..)
I personally dont have much money but Im prepared to help anyway I can..

Dunno about that, think thats why I always loved the place over anywhere else - because it always has and (hopefully) always will be different to the nicely decked out, fancy-schmancy pubs that seem to be taking over everywhere!!
snowboarder 13-08-2004, 16:17 EDITED THIS POST UPON REQUEST.
princess_rockchick 13-08-2004, 21:16 So not a good idea to meet in Dove and Rainbow, I perfare the Devonshire cat or a place like that for a meet.
Can people do week days? or would the weekend be better for them?
snowboarder 14-08-2004, 09:30 I think we have to get a venue sorted before we go any further. Without one, there is really not a lot of point in discussing ideas as it will all be "clouds in the sky" with no base for reality.
There are a few venues I am looking at now which may not cause the accountant to tear his hair out.....(yet).
black_soul 14-08-2004, 15:37 I agree snowboarder...........with choosing a place this is all really pointless............let me know when u have chosen a place.

Not sure about anybody else but from a personal standpoint weekends are better for pub meets.
Just pick a venue that quiet, i.e. no music blaring, and a date/time and avoid busy times like Fridays and Saturdays. There is no point asking for people for their preferences of venue/time/date because you aren't going to accomodate everyone.

I would have thought that it would be better to find out who were willing to contribute to funding it first so you'd have a better idea of what was affordable and then search for the venue accordingly.
black_soul 15-08-2004, 15:29 Theres the difference eveyone has a different idea of scale........i know in my mind what i think would work i am not going to just blow money on an idea that i think will fal on its arse........also its good to hav lots of input and lots of people but too many people are gonna cause a clash of interests............i dont know if the whoe grand scale thing is the best way to go.....so i am not worrying too much about prices coz i know how to start myself off and what to work out with the places i am looking at
Till Man 15-03-2006, 11:17 Two years on from this thread starting, did anything ever come of it?:?
Classic Rock 15-03-2006, 15:31 If it's any help, I'm down at the Moorfoot Tavern every Saturday evening. There are live rock bands playing too. You can talk if you're at the back of the pub - it's noisy but a really good atmosphere.
goldenfleece 15-03-2006, 15:35 Two years on from this thread starting, did anything ever come of it?:?
Not really. The 'club climate' is all wrong in this town to attempt something major like this and be 100% sure of success. However, never expect there NOT to be something new........at any time.....
geckoqueen 15-03-2006, 17:35 Why not meet at the Westway next Tuesday? We're having a classic rock night, the rock forumers who have ben enjoyed themselves and it couldn't be any more accessable (its next to the City Hall tram still at the bottom of West Street). If enough people showed it could actually get a regular spot.
