hiya ,
i went to visit my grandmother today who seemed a bit distressed, when i asked her what was bothering her she was concerned as she recieved a letter from"chase solutions" informing her she has 5 days to contact them regarding her gas supply. failure to contact them would result in the possibility of disconnecting her supply and that any outstanding costs will be required immediately before reconnection.

my nan showed me the letter and it is very obvious to me that the letter is part of a scam...the phone number with the chase solutions heading is different to the numbers given for her to contact them.
at the bottom of the page there is a ltd reg number but you can see where the company name has been scrubbed(if thats the right term) by computer.

tried to do a search on web with the address on the letter, phone numbers etc and i can get nothing.
i am going to contact police in the morning as all the old people in her block of flats have recieved these letters and most are worried they are going to be left without heat. as far as i know none of them have parted with any money but im sure this is what these con men/women are after.

please let me know if any of you have recieved any of similar letters.

thanks, lisa:)

That's just horrid, for what? A couple of pounds a phone call? Nasty things will happen to those people. Yep, baaaad karma.

I've got a better idea ;)

have a look at this:
http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/temp/ofgem/cache/cmsattach/16844_gas_meter_readers_2006(ver14).pdf?wtfrom=/ofgem/work/index.jsp&section=/areasofwork/metering/metering03
The genuine chase solutions are a meter reading company, so each resident should contact their own gas supplier to check there is no problem with the meter readings currently on the system

They can also ask who the meter reader is for this area

this should give them peace of mind, and will also be useful info to pass onto the police (if it turns out it's necessary ;) )

Edit: I got my info from the ofgem website ;)

thanks strix for the information you posted.

im confused now though.

the letter has the info of chase solutions you have posted, but the letter is so badly printed it really cannot be legit. you can literally see where info has been scrubbed and added. there is an 0870 number at the top of the page under chase solutions heading, then there are 3 lancashire numbers to contact with no mention of the above 0870 number.

if the letter does turn out to be legit i will be contacting chase solutions about their way of approaching customers and the unproffessional letters they are sending out. they really do look like a bad attempt at conning people.

The phone numbers could be false, and it could be a bad copy of a letter once sent out to a 'customer' who has used it for fraudulent purposes

Ring your energy supplier

Your contract is with your energy supplier, and these people are merely sub-contractors

it was too late last night to contact gas supplier myself, but my auntie is phoning them today when she visits.
strix you have been really helpful as i couldnt find anything connected with metre reading and chase solutions last night when i did a search.
just hope it is legit!,
as i said if it does turn out to be so then they will be getting a piece of my mind!!

yea, this is my dads company, well, hes the manager, they buy debt and collect it, thats the company, and they are based in chorley, but their head office used to be in manchester , where Robbinson Way had their offices, because they own Chase.
if they received that letter, i can asure you, that it is DEFINATLY not a scam, they would have baught the debt of British Gass , or Npower , because they have a lot of work for BG.
just thaught you might want to know the actul truth, and btw... i went to the trouble of registering on this site just to respond to that, dont get worried, they are a genuine company

A quick check on Companies House
www.companieshouse.gov.uk found 3 companies with the name Chase Solutions, 2 which are dissolved and the other is classed "Other software consultancy and supply"

As MuteWitness said, why as it took you 4years to reply.

I would tell them to go forth and multiply. They are just bully boys. I would get in touch with my supplier, check if there is an outstanding bill. If there is i would pay the supplier only and then change to somebody else.

Certainly would not deal with these low lifes targeting the elderly. They should be ashamed. Saying that these people do not have a conscience and lack the intelligence to understand the upset they cause.

Some interesting (and not very complimentary) stuff on Chase Solutions and Robinson Way on the Consumer Action Group site, http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/debt-collection-industry/

Since the original thread is from 2006, I'm not sure why anyone would want to suddenly start defending the company now
