You're going to love this ;)

Google have a new little tool that allows you to have a search box in your taskbar (that's the stripe at the bottom of your screen).

It's called Google DeskBar and it's available here (http://toolbar.google.com/deskbar/index.html).

Just installed it and it's a little smasher because you can do searches without using your browser

sorry, but what's the point? as soon as you search for something, you're then going to open up a browser to view it so...?

Not if you dont want to. It also acts as a mini browser.

In addition you can use the dictionary and calculator functions from the taskbar. It's hardly going to make IE redundant, but it's a nice little tool.

you can also get the google toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/) which will then give you the google search functionality directly within IE. With a little fiddling it can also be customised to search this forum directly although i'd doubt you rarely have reason to search for posts here ;)

I found it a bit cumbersome really, so I tend to use Google itself nowadays, ie www.google.co.uk
