View Full Version : Sturrock Sacked by Wednesday!!
nelsonjd76 19-10-2006, 14:50 Cant believe Wednesday have sacked PS. Ok the league aint great and the result last night was poor but having just extended his contract this is short-sighted!!
Dave Allen I supported you but this decision doesnt make sense!
SWFC Have sacked Paul Sturrock
Welcome Gary Megson ?
RoyalRegular 19-10-2006, 14:53 So what happened to the continuity Allen spoke of when he gave PS a 4 year contract?
If anyone ought to be going, it's that tosser Dave Allen!
nelsonjd76 19-10-2006, 14:58 this decision doesnt make sense, after just a couple of weeks since getting him to sign a new contract (which I guess we will have to pay up!)
we are skint, no major investment coming in and PS was doing a good job under that i would say
dave allen i supported you and thought you had the best interests at heart but now im not sure
you said you wanted continuity and then the first sign of trouble this year you decide to get rid - that sucks as poor management, you should go not sturrock
just wish i could afford a big mac yet alone buying the club otherwise i would you have made me mad dave allen!
who we going to get - i guess megson still lives in the city so he would be an option but would he want the hassle, blackwell from leeds has too many connections with both Uniteds so i dont think the fans would warm to him, who else?
yorkie030 19-10-2006, 14:59 What about Nigel Worthington or Dave Penny? First we much get rid of that Muppet Dave Alan!!!
How not to get the fans on your side Allen
Who in their right mind will come and manage Wednesday given the club debt and Allen's record? If anyone needs to leave Hillsborough it's Allen and his cronies. The club needs investment, NOT a new manager every couple of seasons.
nelsonjd76 19-10-2006, 15:03 penny - nah (although he would be cheap and Allen would probably like that!)
worthington - a wednesday legend but remember the wilson and turner years! and he hardly inspired norwich when they had a rough patch and they have better players then us
maybe people like peter jackson (huddersfield), or brian laws (scunthorpe) will be in the frame
we aint going to get anyone better are we?
Just one message for Dave Allen, why give Paul Sturrock an extended contract a few months ago, only to sack him!!!!! More money down the drain! Dave Allen you've truly lost it mate! :loopy: :loopy: :loopy:
ALLEN OUT! ALLEN OUT! ALLEN OUT!
lunnster 19-10-2006, 15:04 yorkie i agree. get the scum out first. then get sturrock back he was an asset to the club. alan out!!!!
The protest boys wiil be out in force....
canadablade 19-10-2006, 15:05 SWFC Have sacked Paul Sturrock
King Sturrock int it ?
chris@25 19-10-2006, 15:05 Allen is the problem, not Sturrock...
Allen is the problem, not Sturrock...the lads are in shock :o things must change...... and change now. A manager is only as good as his chairman....
Saturday will be interesting - protests against Allen and the board now a certainty :loopy:
F. Sidebottom 19-10-2006, 15:10 I can't believe Allen would sack him.
I would guess that Sturrock has stormed in to his office this morning and (quite rightly) demanded money to stregthen a crap squad, and Allen has told him where to go, so Sturrock has walked.
ALL the problems at Hillsborough are caused by the idiots in charge.
Everyone, PLEASE protest at the QPR game
yorkie030 19-10-2006, 15:11 "Allen out!!!" :help:
Guderian 19-10-2006, 15:28 I have no interest in this, and am surprised it isn't a thread yet, but he has been.
Discuss. Not that i care.
NB. Put this on Sports Forum. I see it IS a thread elsewhere (here)

Dave Allen said to Paul Sturrock.May Your God Go With You, Your sacked, what a wally get him to sign a new contract & the n sack him ,does this bloke realise that sacking him after signing a new contract means he will have to buy out the rest of the years he has left, thank god we have a great chairman Robbo Robbo.

Laugh all you want Pig because when the Manager and Chairman of Wednesday have gone, we the fans will still be here standing tall and proud because we love our club and are proud to be Wednesdayites no matter what happens
And best of all we are not United

One can assume that Sturrock walked ,and will not be paid in full,Allen's far to tight to pay up his contract. As he got a job lined up north of the border in Scotland ?

Go on Son! That's the spirit! As if we've ever been worried by the red & white plebs!
"WE LOVE YOU WEDNESDAY, WE DO. WE LOVE YOU WEDNESDAY, WE DO. WE LOVE YOU WEDNESDAY, WE DO! OH, WEDNESDAY WE LOVE YOU!"
Ned Ludd 19-10-2006, 16:00  ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Prediction:
Player morale rock bottom
Thrashed every week
Falling gates
Increased debts
Civil war between the Board and everyone else
Relegation
Allen and the board must go now
But they won't.......until they've got their cash back!
The club should go into administration, take the 10 point deduction and start with a clean sheet in the 1st Div next year.
The alternative is a battle to reduce debts that'll go on for the next 15 years.......who wants that?
I suppose it's Allen's and not Surrock's efforts that saw a £400K profit last season?.......don't make me laugh
Allen out, Allen out, Allen out, Allen out, Allen out, Allen out
Blade1983 19-10-2006, 16:00 Don't think you wendies realise just how much you need Dave Allen. You have no "Off the field" investments going on, so you need hand outs from your sugar daddy!
you are all Dave Allen's whores!! :)

From BBC Teletext, it'll be on their website too. Also on SWFC website, where chairman Dave Allen posted his statement.
"In spite of strengthening the squad this year, we have not made the desired progress and, to that end, we need a change in the coaching staff."
Hows about 'Carlton Carlton, ffs Carlton' Palmer he's out of a job. :D
OK, OK it's time to come out of the closet now Mr. Allen. You're a Blade aren't you?
CorkerSWFC 19-10-2006, 16:12 Paul Sturrock has parted company with sheffield wednesday as of today there is a statement on the official website folks...

im going to empty my bank account now and put it all on us getting relegated
wouldnt fancy being allen on saturday
cheers for the memories king paul especially cardiff
Oh and to all the blades bolllocks to ya you wouldnt know loyalty if it kicked you in the teeth , wanting warnock out when you are on the verge of getting promoted last season
Seeing as how the different threads have been merged, this post is now completely meaningless and should be deleted.
ParsleyPie 19-10-2006, 16:15 I dont think he should have done that. granted we have been playing shocking but that been happening for 10 years now. we need a bit of stability with our managers cuz how many have we had in last 10 years and still shockingly bad! its obviously not the manager that is the problem is must be something else for it not too improve with all of the changes so we have had. and with a perm manager we can actually build a good team.
bladebloke 19-10-2006, 16:15 gutted he was doing a fantastic job.
Ned Ludd 19-10-2006, 16:15 Only one man for the job:

Give the manager a 4 year contract then sack him!!!!!
Outstanding bit of business Mr Allen.
Could Nigel Worthington be in the frame. I know we wanted him last time, maybe the time is right?
Or maybe Nigel Pearson?

Someone here doesn't understand the concept of a fan, and rest assured, it's not me. I support United; I want United to win. I care no more about Wednesday's results than I do about Plymouth Argyle's results, because I don't SUPPORT them.
You, apparently, do, since you take so much interest in what Wednesday are doing.

I am indulging in light hearted banter which, if I am not mistaken, has been taking place between the opposing fans for a long, long time. You on the other hand are coming across as a humourless politically correct bore.

Seconded, and I *am* a Blades fan. When I read comments like the ones Blade1983 is making, it makes me wish I wasn't.
I agree with your comments as another Blade.
I cannot understand why you Wednesday fans do not blame Sturrock, his record is poor, you only just missed relegation last year.
I know you have the debt, but you have good support and far more resources than many clubs in that division.
REPO MAN 19-10-2006, 17:24 yes you will still be standing there moaning and grunting about how big a club you are and all the usual sh-t all you wendys come out with, do your self a favour and get down to millmoor and support YOUR LOCAL football club !
get used to it your sh-t and you know you are.

correct me if i am wrong, but a coupel of weeks into the season wernt wendy fans shouting 'sturrock out' at one of the home matches??? i think it was the one that you lost 4-0 or sumet liek that to a really pathetic team, besides your selves obviously. mmm im gunna check this out!
by the way soem really good cracks on here haha!

I know what it is now the game against mansfield :o :hihi:
wendy lost 4-0, and it was heard by residents in the hillsborough area that 'STURROCK OUT' was being shouted! SO why are you all complaining it is not like he did anything for you anyway?? :suspect:
Camrat78 19-10-2006, 18:44 just cant beleave that we sack the best manager we've had in many many years. To say he has only spent a few thousand this season, when we barley escaped relegation last season what does Dave Allen expect??????
Time for Mr Allen to go...... come back Ken Bates!!!

It's amazing how many people I pay to do manual work for me a Blades.
Funny that?:hihi:
If we sacked our manager who took us to the promised land ,he would not receive the support from the Blades fans, that your manager as received which I do find remarkable,he is not arrogant like Warnock, but you are not playing well and most of the current side are his signings.
Floridablade 19-10-2006, 18:48 Sturrock probably walked out and who could blame him, the club is finished unless money is pumped in and handled properly which hasn't been the case in the past.
Wednesday have been a great club, a credit to the city and the fans but the people who control it now need to get out and a consortium of intelligent fans take control.

A succinct and well put point.
However, if theres one thing these forums should show you, is that intelligent fans-on both sides of the city-are at a premium.
Over the past fifteen years or so there have been some incredible things happening at swfc. The developments today regarding sturrock in my opinion are by far the most stupid and ill timed i can reme, mber.Good luck to Paul Sturrock, hope he finds himself a club with a board what actually have an idea about running a football club.

I'll second all that. It's the most stupid, arrogant and unthinking act by any chairman since Dooley was sacked on Christmas Eve.
Time for "Bonaparte" to be exiled

Colchester must have a lower wage bill than you guys, your results have been crap for the last season and so far this year. You guys blame your chairman ,I admit him and Warnock would get on well in that they both lack charm Paul Sturrock seemed a nice guy but the buck as the yanks say stops with the manager. The league position does not lie you guys have to be objective not subjective.
Ned Ludd 19-10-2006, 19:53 ..........you guys have to be objective not subjective.
Wednesday fans are extremely intelligent and objective hence we are able to look beyond the manager and see that problems at S6 are everything to do with little Napoleon Bonaparte and the club's finances and not with his sacrificial scapegoat

I am an Everton fan so I don't have any axe to grind or daft scoring point to make.
You must oust Allan
Sturrock is a proven manager, but without real cash to spend he can only do so much.
Allan is only after self glorification, He wants to head the FA
If I was a Wednesday fan I would love to get rid of this meglomaniac.
Let him head the FA he is daft enough.
Wednesday looked long and hard to find a manager of Paul Sturrucks calibre what can they do now to convince any go-ahead motivator to come to Hillsboro.
It could turn out to be a mission impossible

ZEDEX48K 19-10-2006, 21:46 An urge to all Wednesday supporters, please attend the demonstration planned for this saturday before the game against Q.P.R.
This demonstration is for Dave Allen and the board to resign after the sacking of Mr Paul Sturrock today.
The demonstration will be held from 1.30pm on the bridge over the river at the South Stand.
Note:
Can i please ask blades fans (i know we are not great at the moment!) and others to leave this thread to the subject in hand. Many Thanks in advance.

davebott 19-10-2006, 23:18 Allen is a self made millionaire and not prone to throwing money away so why give Sturrock a 4 year extension to his contract and then sack him a month later? Makes me wonder.
Has the contract even been signed ? If so it must have some get out clause regarding the amount of compensation to be paid, maybe to do with the Owls league position ?
Was Sturrock sacked ?
Does Allen have some one lined up for the vacancy ? Maybe a big name who will apease the fans ?
Are the board set to resign and a consortium to take over and appoint their own man ?
I am not surprised at the sacking considering the results and performances this season and partly last season. What does surprise me is the timing regarding the contract offer and the fact that the AGM is only a matter of weeks away.
Who knows what's going on behind the scenes but my view is that Dave Allen is an astute businessman and has something up his sleeve.
8balltiger 19-10-2006, 23:49 Heard a little tune on the jungle drums. Sturrocks contract was due to start on 31st of oct

Very short arms? :hihi:
NA.Allen out hobson in.
It is rumoured that Waddle is in favour as a member of Hobson's management team.....brilliant player but potentially a disastrous manager. Let's have no frying pan/fire situations
We want a new board but one that knows a top class manager when they see one. Wednesday Greats like Hirsty and Waddle won't fit the bill
Big Nige may be a different matter
Let's have no frying pan/fire situations
Manager-wise this is what we've had since Wilson was appointed
ZEDEX48K 20-10-2006, 10:01 Good to hear you guys are coming. Lets make this demonstration one that the board will never forget. Enough is enough.

UP THE OWLS!
Blade1983 20-10-2006, 11:13 Jazzybmzoo - finished your song off for you:
I guess now it's time for us to give up
I feel it's time
Got a picture of Sturrock beside me
Got his lipstick mark still on my coffee cup
Got a fist right up his bottom
Got a head that’s made of pork
Gotta leave it, gotta leave it all behind now
Whatever he said, whatever he did he didn't mean it
We just want you back for good
Whenever I'm wrong just tell me the song and I'll sing it
You'll be right and understood
Unaware but underlined he bought a lot of players
they wasn't good
But in the corner of my mind I celebrated mid-table
But that was not to be
In the twist of separation you excelled at being free
Can't you find a little room inside for me
Whatever he said, whatever he did he didn't mean it
We just want you back for good
Whenever I'm wrong just tell me the song and I'll sing it
You'll be right and understood
And we'll be together, this time is forever
We'll be fighting and forever we will be
So complete-ly sh*te
We will never be in the Premier again
Whatever he said, whatever he did he didn't mean it
We just want you back for good
Whenever I'm wrong just tell me the song and I'll sing it
You'll be right and understood
I guess now it's time, that we gave up for good!!
Blade1983 20-10-2006, 11:26 ok - i'm not going to take the p 1 double S or anything - but doesn't Dave Allen pretty much own the club?
because if he does - what's the point in asking him to sack himself?
only way you could make him think about leaving is by staying away from Hillsborough - couple of games with an empty stadium will soon make him think
Jus a thought- how will this help wednesday though?
You have no manager and then if this works you will have no chairman? could this make things worse???
never wrong 20-10-2006, 11:30 Jus a thought- how will this help wednesday though?
You have no manager and then if this works you will have no chairman? could this make things worse???
exactly the point no chairman is better than the one they have got
theripsaw 20-10-2006, 11:33 Paul STurrock didnt seem to be doing very well though.
Blade1983 20-10-2006, 11:33 well i still don't see how asking Dave Allen to sack himself is going to make any difference!
only way they can make him leave is by not turning up to the matches - they can't survive without gate receipts!
Princess_Owl 20-10-2006, 11:51 Im gutted! Not only at the fact that Sturrock as gone, but Im a season ticket memeber in the KOP and for 3 seasons I havent missed a match. But tomorrow unfortunatley I will not be there! I well miffed! I dont even think Allen will show his face tomorrow! As much as I ahte to say this becuase I detest Leeds, I do hope that sturrock goes there and gets them promotion! It will show Dave Allen what a mistake he as made!
Good luck for tomorrow boys, Im sure the fans will do you proud, as we always do!
I think all season ticket holders should go on strike and say they are not entering the ground unless Dave Allen goes! A bit far fetched I know but thats how much he as annoyed everyone!
Rach x
carcrash 20-10-2006, 11:55 I think all season ticket holders should go on strike and say they are not entering the ground unless Dave Allen goes!
Thats a bit pointless isn't it? they have already got your money
Princess_Owl 20-10-2006, 12:24 Thats a bit pointless isn't it? they have already got your money
I did state that it would be a bit far fetched.
Yeh they would have the money from the season ticket but Im sure we spend alot more than just the money we spend on the season ticket at hillsborough.
I take 2 young children, so for me it costs a good £10 each match if not more of refreshments, programmes and 50/50 at the end of the day its all money to the club.
F. Sidebottom 20-10-2006, 13:02 First of all, Dave Allen only owns a small percentage of shares in Wednesday. Less than 30%.
He is the Chairman, it is his responsibility to manage the whole club, and to ensure the manager has the tools to do the job required - i.e. enough money to buy and pay a decent squad. If you don't give the manager the right tools, you can't sack him for not doing the right job.
If the Chairman does not have the financial clout to do this, then he should step aside and let someone else take over.
If no one protests, we are basically accepting the fact that we are ok with a crap team at the foot of the table.
We are protesting because we want the Chairman to do his job - to find decent investment, put money in himslef, or sell his shares on at a sensible price. Allen will not do either of these.
Allen simply quotes that we are 'stable'. We aren't stable - we're stagnent.
We have less debt than most other Championship clubs, and a much lower wage bill.
I personally would prefer to see us £30m in debt and winning some games that £27m in debt and fighting off relegation. At least then the income from gate receipts etc. would be up and would counter the increaes in wage bills. As it stands, gates are falling and so does our income.
I for one am sick of the fact that for all but one of the last 10 seasons, we have ended up at the bottom end of the table, and nearly always in a relegation fight.
I would like to see is start winning some games again.
While ever Allen is in charge there will be nothing more than nominal donations to prop up the rubbish that is currently there, whoever we have as manager.
We go nowhere until Allen is out.
youwhatref 20-10-2006, 14:16 Well funny!!!!! :D :D
only just found out about this!!!
king sturrock indeed!!
And this is why many fans are angry. Many still feel he alone got us up. Of late i think some of his signings have been iffy but he's had a lot of bad luck.
I've always left Allen alone but now feel it is time to go and let someone else take charge (like Culley did after Jewell left). He cannot justify giving someone a 4 year contract and axeing him few weeks later. Very bad business indeed.
I'm also disappointed of the terms used by Allen when talking of 'Funds made' and 'investment'. I disagree that Lunt, Bougherra & Small is significant investment.
Anyway Big Ron for me with Nigel Pearson which wont happen. Not keen on Worthington and have my doubts about Megson. So Pearson gets my nod although i'd like Bullen to have some role on the coaching staff. Disappointed that Bullen hasn't been given the reins for tomorrow.
bigdave1 20-10-2006, 14:17 Hello all...
I may be a blade but I'm not about to gloat - i'm bigger than that.
Have read some of the comments,it's time that anybody who cares about their club to stand up and be counted.Back in 1994,United were in the same kind of state, having just been relegated from the Premiership, with a 3 sided ground, our best players sold up the road to Leeds, and in freefall. We also had a chairman who promised the world and delivered very little - Reg Brealey.
By this time, fans had enough and formed BIFA - an independent fans group .Within a short time,it was becoming obvious that all was not well within Bramall Lane and the protagonist was Brealey.Although BIFA's aims were to raise the profile of the fans and get their views heard, the major concensus of the membership was to get rid of the charman through peaceful protest.
The red card campaign that BIFA planned for a home game saw the entire ground join in - signifying that Mr Brealey should be sent off. This got covered by all the national press, and local tv/radio and raised the profile of their campaign. They also held public meetings, recieved the backing of shareholders, and met with a number of interested parties who wanted to take over the club .Over a period of time, the membership swelled to over 2000 members, and with patience and a lot of hard work,BIFA's objective eventually paid off and Brealey made way for Mike McDonald.
Now it's Wednesday's opportunity to do the same thing. If you are to achieve the objective of removing Dave Allen,be proactive. If you can,get a team of people together to talk to interested parties and find out what their best interests are in leading the club forward.Do not be afraid to peacefully protest, whether it be in the ground,or by getting shareholders to block vote against Allen in the forthcoming AGM,or to call for a vote of no confidence in the chairman and the board of the club.
Whatever happens, don't sit there and watch your team and the ground crumble. If you want to be "Wednesday till I die",start today,or the club WILL die.
well said bigdave1 - A true football fan
There is to be a protest on Saturday. I hope it will be a peaceful protest. The least Sheffield Wednesday needs right now is trouble amongst the fans!
Vote with your feet and don't go to the match.

Ahhh yes ... the guy who sold our entire strike force when we were on the verge of a Premiership spot, and threw all his toys out of the pram and quit because people weren't happy about it, and sucked out of the club all the money that he'd originally put in, leaving us in a worse state than we had been to start with.
Yes, that campaign was a rip-roaring success.
ZEDEX48K 20-10-2006, 16:10 if anyone gets onto the Praise or Grumble phone in tonight mention the protest and this thread on good old Sheffield Forum!!!
Mod Note:
I've had to remove half the posts on this thread and ban one member for a month because of some of the extreme content on this thread. This topic is within a hairs breadth of being removed from the Forum so I'm asking that it's kept civil and adult.
Thanks.

We were still better off than if Brealey had been at the helm, and you well know it. Day Before Thursday are perfectly right to protest in my opinion, and (so long as they stay beneath us) I wish them all luck ......
Whatif wewin 21-10-2006, 19:42 I missed the radio interviews advertised to be on radio Sheffield tonight, with Dave Allen and Paul Sturrock. Did any one listen in and was it enlightening?

Nothing much. PS was just disappointed, feels he deserved more time and a chance with a settled squad. Feels Wednesday will get it right and will get investment.
Allen just simply blamed the performances against Barnsley & Colchester labelling them 'embarrassing'. He seemed to hint that PS is a long ball man as he wants attacking and passing football.
