I need some advice and I know there are other posts similar to this but I just wanted your thoughts on my situation.

After graduating I got my dream job but the company was dead end, money was bad and I ended up being in a dead end situation.

I was lucky enough to be offered a new job - miles from home for a trial period.

However, I am seriously thinking of going back to temping. The travelling is getting a bit much, I wasn't told at the interview that I would have to do further travelling. I cannot afford to move closer to the job.

I don't mind taking a step back in my career as long as I am on 12K+ and in an office job.

Is it too much of a gamble to throw a job in? I don't want to contact an agency just yet but wanted some of your opinions.

Well personally I use;

totaljobs.com (http://www.totaljobs.com),
mysheffieldjobs.co.uk (http://www.mysheffieldjobs.co.uk),
monster.co.uk (http://www.monster.co.uk), et al (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=job+vacancies&btnG=Google+Search&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB).

I have used the employment agencies but I've found they basically do the same as what you'd do, so why not do it yourself? Plus you can use the Jobcentre's wesite for a jobsearch (http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/Internet/setLocale.do?country=GB&language=en&page=/initialise.do). I aggree they have access to the resources for finding out the latest vacancies but the websites like those above are used immensely by employers. I've also found that it is more efficient than written applications etc as your interest in the job they have posted goes straight to their inbox.

Good luck.

Many thanks for your help.

I got my current job by putting my CV on one of the sites you mentioned - but I know my employers use it a lot so I can't really put it on again.

I will definitely try the others, it just seems so hard to get a job in Sheffield. The Sheffield Job site tells you how many people look at one vacancy and it's often hundreds which is a bit off putting!

I'll keep on trying, thanks again.

Many Agencies are crap.

False promises, blatant lies, money grabbing 'mistakes' with wages (that always benefits the Agency), disputes with holiday pay etc etc etc.

There are some good ones - it depends what suits you. I've worked for several Agencies in Sheffield and what I have considered good have turned out not so good for my mates, and vice versa.

But sometimes the candidate expects too much. You can't expect to walk into an Agency and lick off the cream with the best job ever. There is a pecking order and at first you have to take the rough with the smooth until you get more established with the Agency that you choose.

Good Luck anyway - and don't 4get to buy The Star on Thursdays.
