Is there an amateur netball league out there? Or are people [who have access to a court] interested in starting one for fun/exercise? If enough people are interested we can get something going
Failing that...will have to get a running/cycling partner.

I can't beleive NOBODY knows a netball team looking for players in Sheffield
OR no one wants to form a fun squad
I would be happy to start but I need to find somewhere we can play...I have an ideal place but I need players!!!!

I would be keen to play. I have been in Australia for the past year and played weekly there which was a great laugh.

Live at Ecclesall and wouldn't have much time for thravel. Where are you thinking?

Hi
I have not played Netball for years only Basketball, but would be interested in giving it a go. The places I can think of to play would be the duck pond at Firth Park, it is free but can get water clogged. Or Ponds Forge but it's about £13.00 an hour to hire the court, so numbers would have to be confirmed beforehand. The other alternative is the University they have sports facilities but I don't know whether they hire them out?

Lianndi
13-05-2004, 18:05
Well I am a member of the Uni so I should be able to rent a court. Will check out prices/times etc
CAn you get to Ecclesall you think Katie? Also, if we are stuck for numbers maybe we can invite a guy or two and have a mixed team/s.
Which day is good for everyone?

Both Sheffield and Rotherham have a netball league.

Not sure who runs Sheffield League, but Rotherhma league was run by a lady called Mal Bluff.

They play at the Avesta Sports and Leisure Club near Brinsworth week nights through the Summer and Sunday mornings in the Winter.

Anyone can join, I used to play for years.

Mal Bluff is out of action with injury at moment but still runs netball leagues for both winter and summer season.

If you're still interested I can PM you her contact details.

Okay - I think we can get a game started with this!
Somebody could play double centre, and the GS can referee...this is great!

I am trying to get a free court where I work, its not the best but...i think with this lovely weather it would be great to play outside [knock on wood]. If its a 'yes' then we can try to meet up this Friday (21st) and play. We can do a number count when I confirm the venue.

Just checked Goodwin, its £27!!! I will call and double check that price. Failing that we can meet anyway :-) and work out when and where is most convenient for eveyrone.

PLUS If anyone has any more ideas, PM me. We can also possibly look at going en masse to join a Sheffield team. I looked online for information but couldn't find any.

Tentative Date: Saturday 12th June

Venue: Goodwin Sports Centre [outdoor court]

Time: TBA [suggest afternoon about 3:30-4:00pm]

Price: £1 per person [£12 to rent the court but any extra wil go toward rental for another game, hence we need to choose a moneykeeper [hesistate to use the word treasurer]

Is this okay for everyone? Let me know asap as I need to book the court at least 7 days in advance.

As it stands we have eleven players!!!! [yes, including Jamie!] but we can make a go with that cant we!!!

Let me know what you think

:shakes: That would be the best bit! Forget it then.

Only joking, yes this date is fine with me, can't go any later though because I'm going to see Lemar at night, I might go in the gym there first, cause my friends just joined, and that's the friend that i'm going to see Lemar with, so i'll ask her if she wants to play netball aswell, so we'll have even sides. :)

I have heard from someone involved in the league and she is going to send me some information as to how to join the league etc.
I need to know if you are willing to commit to this, we have some time to make a decision as the winter league doesn't start till September or so.
In the mean time, can we get a game going at Hillsborough park? We'll have to play on the basketball court...but at least we can get something going.

Everyone is back..and ready to go I hope so I propose a game on this Saturday afternoon [hopefully people are not working] about 2pm. Late enough for you to have done your chores and recovered from your night out, and early enough for you to play and then get ready to party Saturday night.

I have no idea where people are so I can suggest Hillsborough park for a free game and when i get feedback from people possibly Goodwin. I am also open to suggestions.

Contact me asap.

Hello,

I am a rather unfit 30 ish year old who loved playing netball and was in all the teams at school. I would love to get back into it and get a bit fitter. I am keen if you are still trying to organise something and I might have friends who would be interested.

Let me know. I hope I am not too late.

So who's up for a game this Saturday?

Thanks T
Not sure if people are ready for competition though, unless one of the teams in the league just needs to practice.

On second thought, I am thinking of registering the team for the Goodwin league.
If you go to the page you can get the information and see if you want to get registered. It will also involve us getting a uniform...

Any bright ideas?

Turner333
05-10-2004, 12:19
Ha ha have faith in your team, you never know! Plus don't think these leagues are a massively high standard just groups of friends rather than proper clubs. At least I hope so as the forum football team are not world beaters just yet!

As for the kit I think the leagues provide the bibs. But you might be right about getting a proper strip. If you look good you play good lol

If I manage to get the forum football team going maybe we could have a forum sport social which is what playing sport is all about!!

LuckyHeather
05-10-2004, 17:27
what time and where I will give it a go if I can?

I don't want to wait for everyone to reply etc, but if we can get a a quorum of about 5 people then I would like to meet next week Thursday at a venue TBA.
At this meeting we will decide whether:
1. we are taking part in the league or not
2. if we are taking part in the league - uniform and subs. etc
3. if we aren't taking part in a league, days we can meet up to play

PM me and let me know if you are willing/able to come and I will reply with details.

Thanks so much to chalice and louise for their advice and support.
There will be a meeting at 6pm on Monday in Hillsborough.

Please PM me for the address.

It will be short and its okay if people come a little late if they are just getting back into Sheffield.
Please walk with any plans/advice that you have for either forming a team, or if we don't have enough interest then those of us who are interested could perhaps make plans to join a team already in existence.

Thanks all

Hi Lianndi
What happened with the netball team - did you manage to get anything started?

buck
29-11-2004, 13:08
Can anyone explain the difference between netball and basketball? James Naismith is claimed to have invented basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts, but I suspect it may have its origins in nerball just like baseball is based on rounders, though nobody in the USA would believe it.

Lianndi

Thanks for everyone who has shown an interest in the team. Academic commitments have mandated that I focus on completing my studies right now, so I am unable, at the present time, to do anything more with/about the team.

Another member was able to get some information for those people who are interested in joining a team already in existence, and I am sure if she is still reading this forum she would be happy to provide you with the same info. she provided me.

Until August then ladies.

I just got an invitation to the AGM of the Rotherham netball league. It charges £110 per team and that caters for rental of courts, umpire and four tickets to the presentation. If anyone is interested in coming along to this meeting, and subsequently forming a team, please PM me by Wednesday of this week. I have four people already interested...so if anyone else is, and is willing to make a committment - financial and timewise - please let me know.

Hi there!
I co-run a netball team. We are based in Sheffield (we train in Shef) but we are playing in the chesterfield league(its not too far tho, no further than getting to sheffield venue) and we are looking to recruit players for 2005/6 season. Ideally we are looking for people who can commit to 50% of games. We are also looking ideally for defence and a maybe a GS/A. Post here if you are interested.
I also play for a team who play in sheffield league and am running the team for the summer league. Weekly training. Once again, post here if interested.

Hi

I have recently started working in Barnsley after finishing my studies in Sheffield and i am seeking a netball club which i could join.

I am 24 years old and played GD for my school, and a little for the university, and although i have not had the opportunity to play for a few years now, i am a regular attender of the gym.

Do you think I am suitable for your team and if so how do i join and what nights/days are training/matches?

Many thanks

Hi Jazz Bunny.

I am the wrong side of 30, and haven't played netball since I left school, but would really like to get involved again.

Is it just a practice session? or do you have to commit to playing in a league.

I will not be good enough to compete and can;t spare time at weekends, but would really like a workout once a week doing something a bit more sporty than the gym.

Do you think I would fit in ok with this group in crookes?? or are they all fit young things!!

Ok guys!
For the sheffield based team we train on monday nights at stocksbridge sports club on Linden Avenue 6.30-7.30.

For the chesterfield team we onyl tend to train (in sheffield) in the summer before the league starts. Likely hood is we'll be training at a school (probably king ecgberts). We are hoping to go up a div next season. The best advice i can give is that you come along, meet the team and see whether you feel you fit in, playing and social-wise!

Is that linden avenue off london road, or linden crescent in stocksbridge?

I'll come along monday after bank holiday if that's ok. Where in the sports club do you meet, what's the name of the team and your name?

Look forward to meeting you there.

I am looking for a netball team in Sheffield and I believe that you were trying to organise one.

I live in Cardiff at the moment and I play netball with some old uni friends but I'm moving to Sheffield in August and am hoping to continue playing. I play GK or GD generally.

Jazz-bunny - is the offer still open for players to train at the Institute of Sport - is that the one near the Arena?

Have court
Will play

Finally, the [potential] Sheffield Forum Netball Club has a home - the Burton Street Project; and it has a designated time slot - tentatively Wednesday Night between 6 and 8 pm

The session will be run basically as a 15 minute warm up, and depending on how many people - 3 games of 15 mins each.

The more the merrier as there is a small charge attached to renting the hall. I am also going to speak to the manager of the facilities to see if there can be any concession in terms of using the gym as well.

So please lets FINALLY get something going.

Hey i was wondering if you could give me abit more info about the netball team you've organised. i wont be in sheffield until september but id be interested in joining. Ive not played in 8 years but would be interested in starting up again.

this is a question from one person. Thanks for getting in contact.
The netball team only exists in theory for now annd is entirely dependent on people's committment to the game and willingness to make the extra effort to form a team.
as far as experience goes, this is not an issue -whether you are league material or never played in ur life and 2 stone overweight and just want to get involved in some physical activity - you are welcome.
ps. while we can add more people in september, i would love to get something started before. this is a great time for newbies to step forward.

Hey, I am interested in having a go too, used to play at school. Recently had a go at basketball - so rough compared to netball!! Will keep checking thread for updates!

I have booked a court at the Burton Street Project - Capel Building for THURSDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER at 6:30pm. The cost of the room is £17 for roughly an hour. There is no other cost. I will provide the necessary bibs etc. I can meet people at the BAMFORTH ST tram at 6:00-6:10pm and walk you over. Please try to encourage as many people to come as possible as this will drive down the cost to each of us. When we have our first meeting, we will decide how we are going to run the 'club' ok. Thanks everyone. ITS EXCITING THAT THIS IS FINALLY HAPPENING!!!

I was just wondering what sort of age people were that are joining your netball team, its ages since I played and to be honest have forgotten the rules but I loved playing all those years ago at school!

WE are an all age, all inclusive netball squad. The emphasis is on skills and physical activity first and perhaps later on competition. All welcome! Come along and bring a friend

:headbang: This is so very exciting!

I'm really glad this is finally coming together. As of yet, I have no idea of who's coming etc. (recent interest suggests 7 people] even though I have messaged at least 14 people who expressed an interest previously.

As I want to get together a contact list, I would appreciate if people who are coming on September 7th could PM me a contact number [pref mobile] so that I can send out reminders or future change of plans etc.

PS The cost of renting the court needs to be evenly divided so the more people we have, the cheaper it will be for each of us. But then again, consider the average fitness class costs £3.00)

Hi everyone, only just realised this thread was running. I've been looking for a netball club for ages! However, I dislocated my hip a couple of weeks ago so I think coming along to the first meet might be a little ambitious:) But I would definitely like to get involved!

Lianndi
24-08-2006, 20:27
Good one Sarah. In any event, if u want to just come along and ref from the sidelines thats fine as well....if u have nothing else to do. i think it will be good for morale!

UPDATE
We'll be using the outdoor court so please dress warmly. The plus side is that we only have to pay £10!!!! So now its even cheaper than an exercise class!!

My first time using this site. Would love to play netball but is there an age limit? I am reasonably fit but over 40 and quite small. Haven't played netball since school. Is there a team for someone like me?

Have just found this thread, played netball at uni and am quite reasonable GS and GK, although fitness is a bit suspect at the moment. Is it ok if I come along too? Also have umpiring qualifications if thats any use? x

Lianndi
31-08-2006, 11:17
ALL INCLUSIVE FITNESS!! Don't worry about where you are fitness wise, just come with a positive, teachable attitude and it'll be fun. I guess everyone knows how to get there and no one needs to be met at the tram stop? Looking forward to seeing u all!

PS Remember to bring your £1 to pay for the court

Hi there,

I've just noticed your thread - I moved to Sheffield ten days ago and am looking for a team to play for, and somewhere to meet new people. I've tried two clubs here in the last week but they weren't very friendly and a bit too serious for me!!!! :-) What day do you play on, and would it be okay for me to come along?

Thanks!

Sarah

I know some of you are a bit intimidated by coming out to play with a bunch of strangers - so even if you haven't yet, a couple of us are meeting up tonight at Cubanas at 7:30 for drinks and a chat. Come out and meet the people who play regularly and you'll see that there's nothing to worry about!
