I have designed a small site and uploded to my server but the background and piccies arn`t there what have I done wrong ??

It depends on where the images are pointing to (the links).
Give us the URL and we'll take a look (I had the same problem the first time I was tinkering with a site).

Have you uploaded the pictures?

Have you set your FTP software's file transfer type to AUTO? If not, it will upload your web pages correctly, but will not upload pictures in the required BINARY format.
