Has anyone seen any fairly inexpensive bare rooted or root balled small trees which are often for sale in supermarkets or chain stores? I bought a few from Morrisons a few years ago for my old house, but at the moment my local Morrisons (now Hillsborough) only has shrubs etc.

I am looking in particular for a Malus Golden Hornet (crab apple) and a small variety of Rowan. I have been to my local garden centre who had a lovely crab apple. It posed two problems. First it was £25  second it was too large to get in the car and delivery was from £5   . I am happy to buy the small packaged trees as I have had no problems with them before although Im sure the £25 malus was very good.

So where can I get something affordable which I can take home in my car?

Did some research and found that Netto have some trees in at £3.99. So I bought 3 different apples, a cherry, a crab apple and a rowan. They also have some small shrubs and perennials.

I have planted them and hopefully they will be OK. My mum had a lot of success with the plum trees she bought from netto.

Google for Ken Muir

I've had trees from them, my parents have had trees from them several times :)
