Interesting to see some interest in Maestros and Metro Turbos on here.

Anybody out there interested in the venerable SD1?

Always keen to exchange bits and I have quite a lot of stuff in the shed if anybody’s short of bits, especially for Series 2 V8s

Oooh SD1, I don't have one...Always nice to see them though. A friend of mine used to have an automatic O series SD1. That was amusing seeing the size of an O series in the engine bay of an SD1. :)

I used to own a maroon SD1 3.5 V8 fantastic until the fuel pump went and the rust got to it. So fast it was unbelievable(sp)

Never owned one but always fancied trying out a diesel.
Anyone on here had the diesel ? What were they like?

They didn't produce all that much power, but loads of torque so they'd feel effortlessly quick.

They respond very well to tuning too!

'Adequate' as diesels went for their day, but not wonderful. The diesel version (SD Turbo) was reasonably appointed in terms of trim, and there were no major problem issues with the diesel engine, but they weren't made in big numbers and are now very, very hard to find.

If you're thinking of trying an SD1, the V8s call much higher prices than the staright six petrol motors. A nice Vanden Plas EFi or Vitesses is £4-5000, £2000 for something reasonaby tidy. £2000 will get you a very nice carburetted V8, but £1000 will get you a really nice 2300 or 2600.

Still a good car, and virtually all the spares are available cheaply.

I read recently that a load of brand new spares have been re-imported from India. As you say just about everything is available from Rimmer Bros.
If I do try one it would have to be the diesel!

And some of it now a lot cheaper than it was before too - happy days!

Just bought a load of the newly imported SD1 spares from Rimmers - in amazingly good order.
