Want a purely beer themed stag weekend and thought of going to Germany - rather than the usual suspects (Prague, Dublin, Tallin, Amsterdam etc.)

Has anyone been to either Berlin or Munich on a beery weekend ?

Recommendations very much appreciated!

Im planning on going to Berlin, but not for a stag weekend. From what a friend has told me it has a very wide varied club and music scene. Wouldnt be my first choice for a stag do. Why dont you try Krakow? Cheap booze, amazingly beautiful women ;)

Munich if it's purely a beer fest you're after.

Make it Munich. :thumbsup: At least you'll sober up to beautiful scenery.

The women in Berlin might turn out to be blokes in the morning.:gag:

my mate and i went to berlin last month to see robbie
we loved it there, but would imagine they would not tolerate silliness too easily.

saying that we didnt go out at night too late.

depends when you're going. if it's oktoberfest time (ie october!) munich,munich, munich, i suppose. otherwise perhaps berlin but as other posters have implied, it's not cheap to drink in pubs/clubs anywhere in germany.

Go to Krakow - Poland

Fantastic beer, the most beautiful scenery, and the beer is cheaper - less than a quid a pint, fly from Doncatraz airport too, oh and I forgot to mention the women.. ... .... ....

Been to Munich, as previous ppl have said, the scenery is fantastic, also a pretty city. Can also reccomend Nuremberg, got a cheap flight there with www.airberlin.com. Really quaint, bit like Venice with bridges and rivers, also huge Saturday market all thro centre of town

I live in Germany and would probably recommend Hamburg rather than Muenich or Berlin. Munich is not too brill outside the Oktoberfest and Berlin is very big. Another good place is Cologne. Have fun whatever you decide...

i've lived in both - was a bricklayer over there for 3 years in the 90's

for a stag weekend it would have to be munich - berlin is by far the better city but not for an on the pish 'stag weekend'

Depends on whether you're interested in the beer for its own sake or just want to get rat-arsed. If it's the former then you should most definitely go to Munich as that's one of the great beer places in the world, whereas Berlin isn't. If it's the latter then I don't suppose there'd be much to choose between them.

[Only place I'd really avoid in Munich centre is the Hofbräuhaus, btw - the other beer halls are fine, my favourite being Augustiner. Plenty of good smaller bars too, though you might want to buy a guide book so that you can avoid (or seek out!) gay bars and such.]

I'd say Hamburg - stay in the Reeperbahn area and prepare to be gobsmacked. Amsterdam doesn't even come close...

Berlin is truely!!!!!!!! amazing.

I am off there next week and it will be my fourth visit in a year.

My friend has organised a stag do for 12 boys next weekend in Berlin. They have it sussed. There is great beer and there are great bars in Berlin. Munich is far better for beers, but for life, history, culture, fun and much much more, Berlin is top. Last time we were flying back to Newcastle on a Friday night and fifteen Geordie blokes in fancy dress left the plane. Pure entertainment.

There is always somewhere open and the clubs are pretty good too. We have had a few sessions in the bars until five in the mornng and then off to a club. Met some great locals too.

Found it a really friendly city.

I can keep you posted on the feedback after next weekend on how it went.

Stay in the old East side - Mitte/Prinzlauerberg; great places; good cheap food and great bars.

Went on a stag to Berlin three years ago...thoroughly recommend it. The Generator hostel was the perfect base. I can't remember the name of the area (in fact I can't remember very much) but there are a couple of streets near the big tower choc a bloc with excellent pubs and bars. There’s an Irish pub there that has a large back room just perfect for kangaroo courts and fines.

Also, organised a stag in Hamburg. Also an excellent location and thoroughly recommended. There’s an excellent little bar on the beach (great views of container ships…) and the ‘grim’ reaperbaum is an experience in itself.

Can't compare to Munich and Berlin, but spent a night in Dusseldorf and it was fab - loads of bars in the old town, so many with outside seating etc that the steerts are space heated! Loads of different types of bars and restaurants. And a pretty place too!
