Annoyingly this thread got moved just as I was trying to post.

To go rallying, you need a prepped car (buckets n cage, foam tank, remote engine cut off etc) which could be done for as little as 1K or can be purchased that way. MSA race license = £350 ish afaik all in.

You would then enter something like this (http://maltonmc.co.uk/mmc/mfr.html), but would need to be a member of a club - through marshelling etc.

I notice you are 19. I think you would struggle to get road insurance on a caged car, so you would need to trailer - something perhaps a good idea for carrying a rally wreck back home in anyway. I guess I'm familiar with people driving in tarmack road sprints on the horse they rode in on.

*shrug*, just watch some of the rally video crash clip programs on motors tv to get an idea.

Pug 205 gti, nova, sierra, rover 200 bubble, mondeo even. They have different categories so you are going to need to look at which ones have cars with engines near the top of the boundaries. But lets face it, you are going to crash or at least prang it plus your performance isnt likely to be hugely down to the car when you are first starting out. Just imho as I'm in the same position as you - just looking at options in that area. Go to a few amateur rallys and see what goes on.

Was watching the tour of Mull coverage recently. It shows you can beat higher spec cars with older cheaper ones even at that level as the gulf in driver ability is massive at anything other than full pro events.

Hi Mike,

There is another way to get into Rally driving if you think you have the moves! There is a driving experience in Northampton that possibly offer a sponsorship to the driver of the day! Unfortunately I wasn't the driver of the day but it was great fun none the less

I booked mine through trackdays.co.uk, it's called the 'rally quest' at Silverstone Park. Good luck!:D

Join a Motor Club these guys have done it and will tell you about the pitfalls
Try Sheffield and Hallamshire they meet on Wednesday nights at Abbeydale Sports Abbeydale Road South
or look at the MSA web site { Motor Sports Association}
You will need Club Membership and a Licence from the MSA before you can start
As the other guy said any car will do it about PRACTICE
good luck I have had a brilliant time

Hi there

I saw your post and I'm interested in getting it rally driving. i think the suggestion of the Abbeydale motor club is about the best. I have no knowledge of mechanics or anything like that but would be keen to pool some money to get a vehicle or something.

I think the Abbeydale club meets the first week of the month.

Cheers

That's the best advice from jamiemini. You need a money pit to get involved in motor sport. Believe me, been there, done it, got the T shirt. The trouble is once you start, the adrenilin kicks in and it is such a fabulous feeling. Get your kicks elsewhere for minimum outlay.

I'd like to get involved with Navigating in a rally car.
I can also drive (I am a professional / exxperienced driver), but love navigating - and am an experienced map reader - orienteer.
Without joining a motorsport club - how can i get involved - or do any Rally Drivers out there need a co-driver, and navigator?
