Who can remember the days at Tinsley before the Viaduct was built and also who can remember it's construction. In 1966 I was an apprentice with GPO Telephones and in 1968/9 we commissioned the Emergency Telephones on the newly built Viaduct.
In 68/69 the M1 was opened only to Barsnely then to Leeds.
In those days as an 17/18 year old the motorway was great and as there was no speed limit it was a chance to see how fast your car would go.
Sadly most cars reached 70 but the car that our dads had would reach 100+ but we would not tell them that

Anybody else remember those days:huh:

I remember them. I was a postman and had to trudge down the route for the Motorway to the contractors with the mail. I think it finally opened in May 1968.

I worked at Shepcote Lane Rolling Mills in the 60's & went to the Plumpers for a pint before or after work, it was a bloody noisey place to be in those days whilst the motorway was under construction, messy too.
