Ive got long very curly hair and have as yet been unable to find a hairdresser who knows how to cut it!

Ive tryed finding a hairdresser with curly hair as I thought they would know how best to cut it but every salon i go to is full of hairdressers with short or dead straight hair! some dont have a diffuser in sight!

If you are a hairdresser with curly hair please give me your details so i can book an appointment :) :help:

There is a stylist at La Coupe who has done my hair a few times. She has always made a good job (although mines straight) and she has curly hair if I remember correctly-name's Hollie

Also, as an after-thought, there are several places on London road that specilise in afro-carribean hair, and may be able to help (appologies in advance if the way I've phrased anything here is wrong, it obviosuly not intended, but I know how PC crazy the world is)

Thank you! Ive thought about going to afro carribean but afro hair is still very different to english curly hair. I may try your hairdresser though :)

Whilst I have naturally straight hair, my daughter has totally different naturally curly blonde hair. Since I have started going to Loaf at Woodseats she has finally managed to tame her hair. Whilst she does occasionally get out the GHDs (am told that curly hair is cause to be bullied), it has looked a lot better since I started using this hairdressers. Not cheap granted but have tried several stylist and feel you get what you pay for.

The last people to cut my hair were Loaf at Woodseats and unfortunately i was not impressed! he cut some random chunks at the front really short for some reason and they looked silly!

I have similar problems sall as my hair sounds the same as yours. I went through a stage of wanting it straight before it was possible with the modern hair straighteners. I even went to an afro hairstylists asking for what black people use to straighten their hair but it is too strong a potion for our hair, however I have good straighteners now that straightener my hair perfectly.
I've found with having curly hair that mistakes are well hidden especially if its as curly as mine. However in this day & age it just isn't in anymore & you feel like you want something totally different that isn't going to damage your hair with all the products we have to use.

I'm also looking for a hairdresser with lots of experience in cutting long curly hairf - I haven't had my hair cut in 6 years by a hairdresser because the last person to do it made a godawful job of it!
The usual comment I get is "oh, it's very thick..." which isn't too promising!!

How much do you charge for a cut and finish, Carol?

I'm not looking for a drastic restyle - just the ends chopped off and a bit more shape, maybe some layering.. daren't do anything else!!

i have long naturally curly hair and the ONLY hairdresser i've ever found who i've gone back to is GLEN at TONI AND GUY, Sheffield - he costs about £40 but well worth it - cuts to suit your hair not the current fashion/fad and is v friendly and approachable (and v cute!). If you want a colour as well, ask for Lauren at the same place.

I've got long, thick, curly hair and used to get it blow-dried straight WITHOUT straighteners! when I lived down South. i've never been able to find anyone who can blow dry it and finish it with the same effect as having used straighteners. If anyone knows how to blow-dry hair the "old-fashioned" way i'd be much obliged. I use straighteners occasionally but they make my hair really dry. Thanks

My sister has very curly hair, and has always struggled to find a hairdresser that doesn't just want to straighten it (good luck trying, it lasts about 5 mins!)... She has recently found Natalie at Loaf in Woodseats and is now very happy - without a straightener in sight!

Just to let all you curly haired girls out there know, I had my curls cut by Carol at Smile hair (Hillsborough) last weekend and she did a good job!

So my hairdresser problem is now sorted and I will be going to her in future!

Hi, do you still go to Smile and does Carol still do your hair and do you still like how she does it. I desperately need a new hairdresser that can cope with thick, curly hair. Thanks

Hi, yes I do still use Carol at Smile hair, she cuts it really well and does exactly what you ask her to. I prefer to style it myself though as I dont think anyone can dry curly hair except for yourself!

She must be good for me to travel to the other side of the city in the worst one way system ever just to get my hair cut!

Curly hair is a nightmare isnt it!

Thanks so much for getting back to me.

Smile is the wrong side of Sheffield for me too, but I would travel!! I think I'll give Carol a try.

I have NEVER found anyone that can dry my hair properly (unless they straighten it to within an inch of its life and I'm not sure straight hair actually suits me), so prefer to do it myself too. However, that can often mean allowing 3 -4 hours drying time which isn't ideal if I'm going out, or in the depths of winter, like now! Any tips??

It's so frustrating sometimes when most people leave their hairdressers looking better than when they went in, whereas I either leave looking like Crystal Tips or come out with sopping wet hair!!

Wouldn't change it though!!

I know how you feel and my hair is not even very curly, simply quite wavy and thin. I found Peter Gretton in Crookes (salon recently changed name to 154 I think), who is the best person who's ever cut my hair in England. I'm Spanish and have been living in the UK for more than 10 years, lived in the North, South, etc. and the only thing English hairdressers want to do to my hair is straighten it! I'm afraid the quality of hair cutting is below average as well. I'm not saying you can't find quality, don't get me wrong, and London has some of the best stylists in the world (my Spanish hairdresser comes to London for specialist courses), but the average hair saloon charging £20-50 is pretty bad compared with Spanish salons charging around 20 Euros for a simple cut and blow dry. Why is this? Men's hair cutting is pretty shoddy too but I've heard there used to be (and still are if you can find them) excellent barbers.

Calli at La Coupe in town is WICKED, she is by far the best haridresser i've ever been to. I always used to straighten my hair and she persuaded me not to, i'd follow her to the end of the earth (or at least to another hairdressing establishment if she left)

We were taught how to do this in level 1 hairdressing and told a denman brush was good for this. It isn't hard to do so i'm suprised you can't find anyone who does this.

My daughter and I have very curly hair but have never found a hairdresser that can cut it properly. We tried this hairdresser to do my daughters hair for her school prom and he has done a fantastic job. He cut her hair before hand then did a beaitiful job of pinning it up . Her hair looks fantastic now she has washed and dried it herself too ,so all you curlies out there : .....Rivals studio , Steven Oldershaw . 749 City road, Manor top S12 2 AA 01142644226. I have long, ver thick curly hair and I use REF products - the moisturising shampoo and conditioner. I buy them from Creator where I get my hair cut. Can't tell you how much difference these products have made to my hair! Never used to wear it curly, but wear it down and curly ALL the time now!.. Gonna check out the link to see if they are cheaper than Creator!

Hi Jennie, yes the moisturising stuff is excellent, I'm glad to hear you have positive results with REF. I really recommend it to people but not many people have heard of it as of yet!
