Im thinking of getting married there in a few years and would like to hear of your experiences please! Ta x Joe Rowntree is the curator at the Gardens, he'd be able to help. His contact details will be on the council website somewhere I'm sure Tony 13-10-2006, 20:15 I didn't think that they were licenced for weddings, and there isn't anywhere indoors to hold one anyway. bigflesh 13-10-2006, 20:33 Could you not have a humanistic ceremony? melody on 14-10-2006, 00:21 I went to a brilliant wedding in the BG in April. They have it in the middle greenhouse which is a lovely venue. Lots of room, but your guests have to stand up and peer through the foliage. After, as the weather was fine we all had champagne just outside in the garden-wonderful venue I would say. deelightful3 14-10-2006, 06:56 i know someone who is getting married there next August. Mrs Goose 14-10-2006, 08:55 Hi - We got married in the botanical gardens in 2004 and it was a fantastic venue. Had the ceremony in the central glasshouse sourrounded by plants and friends, champagne in the gardens watched by squirrels and then evening reception in the Curator's House. It was a brilliant beautiful location - Joe Rowntree - (the curator) - is the bloke to speak to and he's very helpful. Do PM me if you want any more info. Mrs G Tony 14-10-2006, 08:56 I take back my original doubt! I hope you have a lovely day in that fantastic setting :-} :-( :) yan 14-10-2006, 12:52 Gosh it sounds brill i'm really excited now. Sorry I forgot to mention it would be in the pavillion and not just in the middle of a field. Dodn't realise you could have the evening reception there too. It sounds wonderful thank you all for your replies. x Dizzyblonde 14-10-2006, 15:25 I have sat in the gardens people watching and seen weddings in the central glass house, it looked absolutely fantastic particularly when you think of some of the cheesy alternatives, this was straight out of four weddings and a funeral. For years, many people have stopped by the BG to have some stylish snaps (and I always image they must have married in an ugly church) but just image the photos if you have have you actually ceremony in the gardens and I would expect some of the money raised goes back into the upkeep of the BG so even better! Lou_Lou 15-09-2009, 22:57 Does anyone have any idea of cost? makapaka 15-09-2009, 23:01 I went to one just the other month. It was a really hot day and outside it was lovely but was a bit on the warm side during the ceremony which was in the middle greenhouse!! Made a change to the usual type of venues though so would go for it. stonecircle 16-09-2009, 15:20 Does anyone have any idea of cost? We got married there in 2006 and its a lot more than the registry office as you have to pay for the registrar to come there which is extra for a Saturday, this was £305.00 + the cost of the hiring the glasshouse which was £667.00 Well worth it as it was such a lovely venue! vikj 29-09-2009, 18:20 Had it there couple of weeks ago and it was perfect! I would say tho maybe do it on a friday rather than a weekend when all and sundry will be about sunbathing etc....The inside looks so different full of people, and after some doubts myself beforehand I now wouldn't have had it anywhere else. shirleyF 03-10-2009, 09:18 As a photographer I have covered a few weddings there. The last one we did, all the guests stood outside and the bride and groom stood in the doorway of the middle greenhouse, facing out. It was a good day weather wise and we got some wonderful shots of the happy couple late in the afternoon with the sun low and warm. Please, please, please, if you go ahead use a professional photographer to do the gardens justice. Jon S6 Photo 17-10-2009, 16:41 Great location vamparicmale 18-10-2009, 21:50 for next year we have been quoted roughly 800 pounds to hire it on a sunday in october (cheaper day and month) then 363.50 for the registrar to book bg they need a deposit of 80 pounds roughly so not bad at all then you have a while to save for the rest |
